  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

School Online?

I started attending online classes in august of 2006. The hardest adjustment was simply more self-motivation and time management. If you are taking very difficult classes, the hardest thing is not having the teacher right there and downloading videos/powerpoints can be annoying.
The good thing about it is you have your independence, and you can sleep in.

I have adjusted so far, but it was difficult in the beginning because I procrastinated a little more, and I missed the student interaction.

Good luck!

It's all about managing the different style of education. You have more flexibility, but you don't have the same "structure" that exists in a brick and mortar classroom. If you stay on top of things and are motivated, it shouldn't be a problem.

I'm considering online graduate degree programs right now. I too want out of my job and to go to a "career" or job that i am motivated to be a part of and work at. I have already taken online classes in college and it's fairly simple for those of us who grew up on computers and with 5 email accounts :D .

I am not able financially to quit my job and go into 100k of debt for my master's and/or phd, so i have compiled a list of regionally-accredited online schools. good luck with your journey and let us know how it goes if you like.

I'm not sure I would go to a solely online university, but I've taken several online classes at the community college I'm attending and as others have said, takes alot of willpower and time management, but I like it alot better. I actually would probably consider an online degree if I didn't have a university so close.

I dont think I would want to do an online course. But maybe that is because I have been homeschooled my whole life. I am goin to college in September, and I am really looking forward to it! Just because I have never really had the experience of a school...

I know what you mean. I homeschooled from 5th grade up and I also missed out on that whole experience and that is probably the only reason I wouldn't go to a college that was completely done online. But taking classes here or there online is a good idea if you don't live on campus (saves alot of gas, lol)

I would imagine if I had been homeschooled I wouldn't be to keen on doing an online course. However, I did my time, and being a product of the public school system, I don't think that social interaction is something I will miss.

My big reason for doing it online is 1-I can't yet afford life on my own which leads to 2-I can't afford a paycut to start working at some fast food place or grocery store just so I can go to school. Doing school online will be the only way I can keep the job I have now and still get my education. And I don't have to travel which is definitely a plus.
