  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't think you're the weirdo, I think the doctors are. :p Pushing nature when it hasn't made a mistake yet makes no sense to me. If someone doesn't have a medical reason for avoiding labor, or a major issues (like being 10 hours from the nearest medical provider) labor should be left to come on it's own. (Obviously if you're overdue that's a different story" a doctor who thinks waiting for due date because baby might come on a Holiday when they don't want to be on call is a scary thing to me.. what else are they going to rush through they don't get stuck in hospital on their off day?
Those were my thoughts exactly, lol. I was too meek and mild at the time to really put up a fuss about it, but my doctor literally assumed that I'd be scheduling an induction and just went ahead with plans for that. Luckily, God was, as He always is, in control, and she came in her own time anyway...a simple, easy, virtually painless delivery (with the help of my lovely epidural, of course), no pitocin necessary. It was so much more relaxing and fun that way...at least for me. I was seriously stressed out about being induced. It was such a huge relief when labor started on its own the night before. I always joke that the thought of the induction scared me into labor...seriously, I think it's true, lol.

I was induced with all 3 babies and have never had an epidural. Nurses said I have a high tolerance for pain. Huh? I can't even handle a hangnail! Anyways, the reason I was induced was all for medical reasons. My placenta never functioned properly so the babies were better off outside than in. I've heard from several moms that being induced is harder than going all natural. Me? I dunno. ;)

I would NOT schedule an induction. I had to be induced (my water broke there was meconium in the fluid but no labor!!!), it was hell, I ended up getting drugs (that I didn't plan on but after 6 hours of HARD labor I couldn't do it anymore) THEN having an emergency C-Section. There are strong suspiscions that some of Levi's problems come from the Pitocin.

After being given the pit, she needed pain meds, and then was given an epidural. She failed to progress (which can be a sign that the baby isn't ready), and had a c-section 13 hours after she arrived. The whole labor experience for her was horrible.
13 Hours huh? Man I swear this is the magic number for inductions. There are 3 women in my bible study who were induced for whatever reason. All three of us had C-Sections after 13 hours. ANd yes it was horrible. The pit my Levi's heart rate drop and I spent 13 hours staring at a monitor watching him get worse and worse.

I'd like to know what the OP thinks..... where ya been? ;)

well, my appointment isn't until this upcoming friday, so i'm trying not to form any concrete opinions until i can talk to her and she what she has to say. as of right now, i'm still torn. we DO live quite a bit away from the hospital in a very large metropolitan area (~ 2 million people) and i'm terrified of going into labor during rush hour in the morning or evening b/c it would take forever to get to the hospital then. and from what i've heard and read (not just on this board, but other places as well), it seems to be about 50/50 -- about half recommended it and would do it again and the other half thought it was a horrible experience.

there may be some factors in my own pregnancy, though, that would make my ob/gyn reluctant to do an induction, anyway, and this may be a non-issue. so we'll see. i like to read the experiences, though. :)

I was scheduled for induction because of my gestational diabetes...on a wednesday...well very very early monday morning Lilly decided that she would just come on..:) I still had pitocin though cause I got there around three....I was already three cm when I got there....By seven I was only at four...they went ahead and started it...I had her at 12:30....Pitocin is really not that bad(the contractions with it for me...of course I do have a high tolerance for pain) I went with it without an epidural til about five to six cm...then I got an epidural and didn't feel a thing. I wish you the best..I know how nerve wracking it can be thinking about it...if you should or not...I have been there...I prayed on it that the Lord would lead me in the right direction...even though my doctor was strongly for it...cause of my condition...I was scared...and sure enough he made a way...he brought her on his time.

If it helps, my best friend (the one who was induced with all three kids) RAVES about her scheduled inductions. It was really easy and she experienced no complications. If she ever has a fourth, I'm sure she'd schedule another induction.

I'm seriously not trying to sway you either way. You need to do what you and your hubby feel is best for you and your little blessing. Don't worry about what anyone else thinks.

Just wanted to clear that up. :)

I delivered my second DD at a hospital about 45 minutes away but that would not have me induce. I actually live less than five minutes from our local hospital but my DH and I agree that we don't use our local hospitals and only one local one delivers babies anyway. I wouldn't make traffic and issue for wether or not you choose to induce, if this is your first time it is likely to take awhile anyway.

I highly recommend the book A Thinking Woman's Guide To A Better Birth by Henci Goer. You might be able to find it at the library, and it's not too pricey on Amazon. It clearly lays out the research on many different aspects of birth, there's a chapter on induction, and it would certainly give you a clearer picture of the possible outcomes of a scheduled induction.

It is always best to know what can happen so you're as prepared as you can be.
