Not being familiar with hardware.....will this fix the problem of not getting email notices of thread subscriptions and PMs?
They suddenly stopped a few days ago after the site was down.

Thanks for the notice :)

I don't know for sure, but usually hardware doesn't solve any software problems/features. Switching for new hardware will make sure the site over-all keeps running- which is the most important thing.

i will add the email notifications to the list of concerns

Hey Paul, good to hear from you. Back when I was on staff, I was having email notification issues, you guys fixed them for one day, where I got months worth all at once; after which, not a single one.;)

Wow

Hubby and I got a slew of mail then too, but it did resume after the fix, with no problems until this week... when the site went down for a bit on Sunday evening.

No hot swapping available?

Possibly! but swapping a new drive [hot or cold]
for one holding 'shared data' [with other (raided) drives]
does not recover the data that is lost

IT follows, that software, that is unable to find data
also, cannot report, it's presence

[?]

I wonder, if, when a site is synced, with a server
WHY, data is 'lost' ~when programming is available
to have data 'balanced' [back and forth] between site and the server database

iow: when server is [normally] updated from site
WHY, the site is not 'repaired' via Server database
LIKE: restoring a PC to 'last known good configuration' [?]
~ to last 'synching state'

I had a Raid (1) setup, in my Dell when it failed
But I wasn't sufficiently educated, to merge their content
SO, Instead, I chose to employ Serial ATA
and a [to me] huge external drive 1Tb as a database
Today my 3Gbs Dual Processor with 3Gbs memory runs LEAN
[without internal data storage] .... I regularly offload to the external drive

In the event of a future crash ....
it simply means
# a re-instal of my operating system
# updating of OS to current date
# then reinstalling of third party programs I use [stored upon External Drive]
All of my data, would be recoverable
thanks to, the cheap cost of, my external memory storage

Raid, is cool, just so long as you can rewrite the bad drive
from the good drive. Otherwise, it is a royal pain, in the proverbial butt

Ah. No wonder the site has been slow as of late.
