  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

My first patient is a really spunky elderly lady. She had a back surgery in August and has had a string of complications which have prevented her from going home yet. 2 months is too long to live in hospitals and extended care facilities. If you could say a little prayer for her that she continues to heal and gains her strength and balance back quickly, we would both appreciate it.

Today, she got moved to isolation because she now has one of those lovely hospital aquired infections...one of the tough ones. She doesn't need this on top of everything else. And it is kind of sobering to realize that my very first patient could make me and/or my family very sick if I even make a small mistake on cleanliness issue and accidently carry something home. I touched my hair today once while wearing gloves...can't remember if it was before or after touching any of her items. I also dropped my only pen on her floor and although I wiped it down with alcohol wipes before touching it...alcohol isn't really supposed to kill this microbe. I'd also appreciate a little prayer that my stupidity while learning my way around these infectious patients doesn't end my career before it starts...

I finished that rotation safely. Here's hoping that I got my safety precautions done well enough. I also had to say good-bye to my patient. I will miss her and will probably always wonder how she came out. She will be on my prayer list for a long time. This is one of the hard parts of nursing...keeping our relationship "professional" and remembering it is therapeutic relationship and not a social one. It is our responsibility to "let go" and move on to the next patient ... and necessary if we are going to survive the mental part of this job. <sigh>
