  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

All right do you have a particular type of scary movie you like? You mentioned The Shining, if you like ghost movies ever seen "the Devils Backbone"? It's spanish and creepy well past anything the US is making right now. Or "the Eye"? Chinese I think. That one was great! Both those have subtitles or dubbed I prefer subtitles but if you want to enjoy it pick which ever one you like. If you like bloody, try "Audition", Japanese, painful. You've been warned! ;) If you like older you almost can't miss with Val Lewton "Cat People" "Seventh Victim". I love horror movies. That should get you started. I'm going to get some sites together you can check-out!
tulc(it takes a lot to creep me out, just a warning!)

I was an EMT and worked in the medical field for 7 years. Honestly, there's probably not much that can be shown in a movie that I haven't seen in real life. It never bothered me handling a dead body, watching an autopsy or even ones that died a horrific death. What always bothered me was seeing the family come in to see their loved ones or when I would be able to talk to the patient just before they died. That always absolutely, positively killed me. I couldn't handle seeing the family members pain and most of the time I couldn't help the patients who were begging to see their mom, dad, brother, sister, spouse or loved one before they passed away. Being a feeler person, that was tearing me up inside and I found myself so many times crying for them and with them. Very rarely did I get the awesome opportunity of sharing Christ with any of them as well. Usually because the circumstance or situation just didn't permit it. Thus, any kind of scary movie, hack and slash, mass murder, bloody, doesn't really bother me as far as the violence is concerned, but I made a choice that I will avoid watching movies like that just for fun because it just doesn't seem right to do so. Not that I think anybody who does is bad or think ill of them. Even then, I'd have to admit to enjoying zombie type movies like Night of the Living Dead, Resident Evil and 28 Days Later... but they're movies that make me feel ashamed telling other Christians I enjoy them. Maybe because I know they're not edifying. Still, if you have some movies you think I'd like, let me know. I'd like to try them out.

God bless!

Hehe, well the punishment for that is a couple days of changing the litter box and all the poopy diapers. Hey, maybe THAT would make a good horror movie. I hope Mrs.Cozmo makes you suffer accordingly. ;)

And thanks. :)

I'm a HUGE chicken and I hate to feel scared or be surprised. And, inevitably, my husband (after talking me into watching the dang movie) falls asleep in the middle of it, leaving me to my own scary thoughts and bad dreams.

We're in the middle of watching Rose Red (Steven King miniseries, I think). Had the DVD for months and haven't finished it yet. Pretty creepy, though. Storm of the Century (another Steven King miniseries) was scary, too.

Love, Heather
I'm a big chicken too... but I give MrCozmo a really hard time when he goes to sleep during a movie he knows I'm scared of... and then he laughs at me cause I can't sleep w/out the hall light on (big meanie).

I really liked Rose Red... which is strange for me cause I really don't like Steven King... lol

The Ring...Blair Witch 1 and 2...The Care Bear Movie (I don't know about anyone else but it scared the you know what outta me....jk
The Ring and Blair Witch....yes those scared me A LOT! But my husband thought they were both laughable. It's funny, I guess everyone has a certain type of scary movie that scares them. Everything scares me, but the ones I really hate are the ones that just might be true...like Silence of the Lambs. :help: Not sure what really scares my hubby...he says Salem's Lot was the movie that scared him the most...but he was a kid when he watched it.

LOL, the Care Bears Movie is my reality 3 out of 7 nights before bed...:sigh: that's what I get for having little girly girls.

Silence of the Lambs and The Sixth Sense were excellent movies, although very scary!
any movie with Jack Nicholson scares me ("horror movie" or not), that man is simply terrifying.
Normally, I would agree with the Jack Nicholson thing...but he's so wonderful in As Good As It Gets. I LOVE that movie! :)

LOL glad you agree, most people don't understand why I find him so scary!
I'll have to check out "As Good as it Gets", I don't think I've seen that one.

It's the sadistic sort of smile that he has, I think. :help:

As Good As It Gets isn't a scary movie...it's a drama. With Helen Hunt and Cuba Gooding Jr...and another guy but his name escapes me. Anyway, it's great and was nominated for quite a few Oscars a few years ago.

:)

Has anyone noticed the surge in horror movies recently?

I look in my video store, and there must be 3 or 4 shark movies on the new release, 2 rat movies, a leach movie, about 4 or 5 serial killer movies, and that doesn't include all of the hack n slash horror flicks.

Surges like this come and go in the movie industry. When a movie comes out that will be a mega Box office hit, you usually see about 3 or more similar movies spawn out at the same time...

A Bugs Life > Antz
LOTR > Harry Potter

Horror has been making a steady stream the past few years but some of these movies I think are more classed under suspence than horror. For instance, The Ring is more suspence than horror. It had that "Boo!" effect rather than a fear effect the whole way through the movie. What I mean by "Boo!" effect is when something unexpected suddenly happens that makes people scream. A real good horror movie is still The Exorcist. That is one that had more of the whole scary effect the whole way through the movie.

The Ring is definitly horror, since there is a monster in it, and the movie is meant to scare you.
The Exorcist is, or was more of a shock value type of film. You don't need to build any suspense on a girls head spinning 360 degrees. You just simply watch it with your mouth open in horror.

There are several ways to scare a person. Suspense building to a "boo" part is one of them. Shock value is another. Hitchcock is famous for letting your imagination do the job for you, this is popular on low budget films, and very effective too.

Every so often we get a film that just shocks us. But we are use to that, we look for it even. But just imagine the original shock movie(I think), Phsyco!
The movie was brilliant, but just imagine seeing that. That was something noone had ever seen before.
After all of these years, that movie is voted the scariest movie of all time.
