• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Brother, I know it is your ocd giving you fits. How? I am recovering ocd myself. Nobody can discourage me and get me down betetr than me. If you could lose salvation then Jesus sacrifice at the cross wasnt good enough.

The word says it is good enough and I believe it. I am saved and I believe you are also. Their are many verses about the real work of salvation belonging to God.

I know this for sure: God doesnt suffer from ocd. He means what he says always and if He makes you a promise as He has, it is a promise kept!

This has got to be your OCD. Remember you were saved by what Jesus did for you. You weren't saved by works & you haven't become unsaved by your works either.

I have a relative who used to suffer from the same problems. OCD runs in my family really bad. She kept having to go to the altar & pray the sinner's prayer over & over because she couldn't convince herself she was really saved. This was when we were young teenagers in the 80s & nobody really gave her any help because the doctors either didn't know about OCD then or didn't know what to do about it. Later on she was able to get on Prozac & she stopped having the doubts about salvation, which shows it was definitely the OCD talking. I have a great deal of sympathy for everybody who has religious OCD. I suffer from OCD but that isn't one of my obssessions, however my experiences with OCD have made me have extreme compassion for all of you who are doubting your salvation. I don't think I could make it if I doubted my salvation, so Jesus must really be strengthening you for you to be able to live life with these doubts.

I can't really give advice on the subject since I haven't experienced this myself but I was wondering if it helped any to try & just accept your faith by faith. I mean, you accepted Jesus by faith, so maybe you can come to the point that you accept your faith in Him by faith. Have you discussed this with a pastor? I haven't had a chance to look at any of your previous posts so you may have already done that, but if not it might help.

Wishing you all the best with this. I don't know why so many of us seem to be chosen to have OCD. God may fully heal us someday on this earth or maybe we glorify Him more by shining for Him in SPITE of the OCD.

Hi Romans8one,this is my first time posting anything anywhere,so please forgive the errors. These same thoughts hit me that i've done something so bad i can't be forgiven,or that I've messed up somehow. The Truth is that we do mess up and sin sometimes and The Holy Spirit lets us gently know and leads us to repentance.Jesus said He did't come here to acuse he said the law did that. The Devil is referred to as a liar, thief, andthe accuser of the brethren.Would you take the word of a liar?Or the word of the one that cannot lie?I know it's painful feeling like this but find verses such as Romans 8:1,Romans 10:4 &10:9andRomans 10:31.memorize as many as you can.I know at least for me my memory is short so start small

The Bible says that, when you are saved, you become a new creature. The Bible also says that no one can snatch you out of His hand. So who's wrong? The voices or the Bible? I'm voting the voices are wrong.

Fear is the opposite of love.

When you hear those wrong voices, just start singing praise songs. The devil hates praise.

Romans8one, God knows your heart. Don't let your emotions and thoughts get the best of you. No matter what we feel or what we think Christ is still on the throne and God's word is always true. Try reading scripture and keep your mind focused on that.

Mathew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give your rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me: for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

John 14:18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

2 Corinthians 12: 9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.

2 Corinthians 10: 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ

Hi there ,I do not think God gives us ocd or any negative affliction, I think all afflictions whether physical or mental is a result of being human.God gives us good gifts.Jesus draws us to repentance with kindness and love.Jesus invites us to come freely to Him and to know we will not be cast out.We are welcome to come to Jesus for mercy and forgiveness and healing.Jesus delights in mercy and loves to heal and is full of love and compassion.Jesus is Truth.

Matthew 7:11
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

James

16Do not err, my beloved brethren. 17Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

This is very common of OCD. I had this type of OCD as a child. It was a mix of unwanted thoughts and worrying over salvation.

I like the verses that everyone put up for you. I think they are very good ones. The verse that says this is also a goodie . . .

"For I am convinced nothing can seperate us from God's love." I can't quite recall the entire verse but there is a long list in between of the things that cannot seperate us from His love and it's pretty infinite! :)

Once you believe in your heart and confess it with your mouth you are saved.

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousnes; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

I've recently accepted Christ as my savior, though I've always prayed to God, and now I'm on the road to baptism, to publicly declare the new creature that I am inside because of Christ. It all takes time and I immediately thought that everything will change so fast but it takes steps and we have to learn patience. Some sinful desires die immediately and some take more time but just do your best to turn from them all and live as Christ and He will guide your steps.

John 4: 14 But whosoever drinkest of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
