• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

i havent been to AA for a week the reason am finding it hard to go is that a member there reminds me of one of my abusers i keep getting flashbacks when i go there i am still wanting to go to AA meetings i know he not the same person but the flashbacks are bad and they makes me want to self injure
Am 8 weeks clean from self injuring / drinking / taking drugs
me and my husband had a fighting over me wanting to drink
i didnt call anyone me and my husband and i talk about it
i now see its my addicts voices that was telling me to drink i see my 8 weeks of being sober as a blessing i want to go longer i want to stay sober

I cant get to an AA meeting until next week as i have family members staying over they dont understand about AA

the strongest thing am drinking is Coffee and sticking with that

Hello Lily.
If you can access other AA meetings, then try that. Some towns have women only meetings too. Eventually, we have to face our fears. The AA 12 step program is tailor made for facing our fears, because it is our fears that drives us to avoid our fears through seeking oblivion (drunkenness).

Get the book Alcoholics Anonymous. Two-thirds of that book contain stories/testimonies. Whenever I cannot get to an AA meeting and feel at risk of relapsing, I read a few stories and those lapse feelings disappear.

Remember to pray. Read and practice step 11.
I will be clean and sober for 27 years this May 25th. I still go to AA and I do step 11 daily, and step 3 many times in one day.

Keep the faith.

Hi I love Jesus. Sobriety is one of the loneliest struggles that one can ever go through. I have been through so many valleys when it comes to sobriety. The best advice that I can give you, do not do it alone. I have tried and failed trying to do
it alone, that being said do not give up!!! GOD LOVES YOU !!!!! As far as the abuse , it will take time to heal. Seek a Christian counselor that will journey with you through the healing process. Please don't beat yourself up .God loves us no matter what and he longs to set us free. Please don't waste any more time in self condemnation it is a trap. GOD LOVES YOU!!!
