Scapular

I was just pondering this last night before I fell asleep. After someone dies, should you leave the scapular on them or can/should you remove it?

I have become such an infrequent visitor, I am happy to see this site still around with a lot of old familiar faces. Having a wife and two great kids takes away from frequenting this site. I find this a great resourse for apologetics and just good talk. We also just launched Catholic Radio here in Sioux City and I listen to it all the time in the car!

I would think that if someone always wore their scapular that it seems right to leave it on them. I don't think there's a "right" answer...just opinion. Like for example- some people remove wedding rings--and some people don't.

Yeah, I was just curious what was approprite or if there was a scapular etiquette.

It's funny about the weddding ring thing. When my dad dies, I want his wedding ring, but the goofball broke his finger a long time ago so to remove the ring would be near impossible. "To death do us part" does not apply for him, I guess! Mom said it was a chore just to put the ring on his finger at their wedding!

It may depend on which order your father was a member of(where he got the scapular).

But I would guess that, like Shannon said, there is no "right" answer. Personally, I would want to keep it and hand it down to future generations.

Eww...my scapulars always get funky after awhile...I don't think anyone'd want one of my sweat soaked el stinko scapulars....

Bury them with the scapular. Some orders have traditional lore/belief that they help if the wearer is in hell, etc.
