  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I got a private message in the CF mail box from a person calling themselves FAVOR. They wanted to talk privately in an email so I foolishly gave my email to this person. I thought that it may contain some Christian issues as we are on a Christian Forums.

Reprinted below is what I got and it appears to me to be a scam. I just wanted you all to know about this as this person is using the Christian Forums site to get members involved in this scam. Have any of you been contacted by Favor?

I am more than happy in your reply to my email and very happy to write to you once again.

Honestly i do live a fearful life even here in Senegal because of those Assassins coming after me since Senegal and my country Gambia has a common border.

As a matter of fact i wish not to stay here again; rather i want leave here immediately.

Moreover, i wanted to facilitate this agreement by myself but due i am not capable now, i wish to seek for your assistance of a long standing relationship of your help in transferring this my late fathers money into your account in your country pending my arrival to join you start for a new life over there you are.

Perhaps I disclosed this to you alone with love and trust which i deposed in you and wish the same from you.

Therefore, I shall give you the bank contact and other necessary information in my next email if you will only promise me that you will not/never betray and disclosed this matter to anybody, because, this money is the only hope i have for survival on earth since I have lost my parents.

Yes, Stan. This is a long-standing scam. The psychology behind it is working with a person's sympathy (he lost his mother at a young age; his father is now dead; and he has a hit man after him which caused him to flee for his life). He's sugar-coating it with reference to his pastor. This also plays on a person's trust by him stating that he'll be placing large amounts of $$ into your account.....that often gets people to give up their account numbers---perceiving it as a "fair trade".

Don't fall for it.

I've been getting calls from some Indian guy claiming to be the IRS. There are a lot of scams going around right now and you're better off just ignoring them.

We got that call as well (and know a few others that have, too). Our call said they'd be taking us to the "highest magistrate" if we don't comply. In the US?

I LOVE scams like this. I create fake e-mail accounts, then reply using the same language style as the e-mail I get. I, of course, refuse the money, but it's fun to mess with people's minds.

ETA - be sure to forward the PM to an Admin so they know a scam is going around on CF.

lol - you do that, too?

I've got a couple of fake gmail addresses like "explicative-youscammer@gmail.com" that I reply with (clearly they don't read the responding email names) - and I carry on with them for a while until they get sick of me. Generally I give them bogus information and tell them I'm sending wire-transfers via western union.

For some reason I get a degree of pleasure knowing they had to inconvenience themselves enough to go check to see if the transfer is there...and then recheck again and again as I tell them "I'm sure I sent it. I have the receipt right here."

...the little things.
