"Saved!"

In a couple of weeks a movie titled, "Saved!" will be hitting the big screen. I and other people I know find this movie sacreligious...we just saw the trailor and found it as a movie that made fun of Christianity. The movie stars Mandy Moore (the singer and from the movie "A Walk to Remember" and a couple other movies), and Maculey Culkin (Kevin McCalister from "Home Alone 1&2). What do you think about this movie?

I agree. It shows both extremes to religion. The fanatics and the wishy-washy people. It looks really funny.

i myself find it pretty offensive after reading the review on christiananswers.net & viewing the trailer, of course you could argue that that's biased, but well* i dunno, it could cause a lot of misunderstandings about christianity espeically with people who already have the wrong idea about Jesus. I know that some Christians are like the ones in the movie, and that sometimes we're all hypocrites, but still, i thnk that the movie is jst gonna do harm to christianity if anything.......it seems sort of like a "retaliation" after the passion was such a huge success. if ya'll know what i mean but then and again it could jst be me..

I saw the trailer for it when I saw Eternal Sunshine, and I was laughing for a good 3 minutes after the trailer ended. I was going to go see it in a few days at the Philly Film Festival, but it costs $30 to see. SO I must wait... Plus it's produced by Michael Stipes, so that's cool.

I hope some Christian organization makes a stand against this movie, and has it banned from being in the theaters, this movie is reduculous...Christians being the villans in the movie!

Yes, because if someone actually offends someone else we must of course ban their work.

Maybe, and this is just a thought, you should go back in time and remove the first ammendment so that anything you don't like can be banned. Too bad our founding fathers believed in a free, unfettered exchange of ideas.

Christians being the villans in the movie!

From the looks of the movie, its not "Christians" persay that are the villian, its overzealous, hypocritical Christians who are the villians, and believe me, people like that do exist in real life, and they are about as villianous as people can get.

Well I just watched the trailer, and I think it looks really funny.
I think we have to step back and really try to understand what these people are doing? Are they making fun of Christianity? From what I saw, no I dont think so. Are they making fun of Christians... absolutely. But you know what, there are christians out there like that. And I just shake my head at them.

Same with Dogma. I thought it was a brilliant movie. Respecful of God, but not so of the church. I think non christians are able to see things in christians, and even in the church, and realize its not right, where as alot of christians DO see them, but choose to ignore them. These people just highlight them in movies.

Im sure we all know those types of people who are portrayed in that movie. The hard core bible thumping, you need an exorcist because you are posessed, and the backsliders.
One part I thought was brilliant in the trailer, was when they were arguing over what colour to paint Jesus... one person didnt think he should be white... and how often do we hear this discussion?

Anyways, Im just rambling, but I think it looks great. If you will have a problem and might base your faith on that movie as oppsed to the Bible, then maybe you shouldnt go. Remember kiddies... there is a difference between fiction and non fiction We just have to learn to learn the difference

Have read a few reviews regarding this movie to try and get a feel. Having not seen the movie yet it is, of course, unfair to really judge it. However, subject matter aside, I get the idea that the movie is a poor piece of cinema. For that reason alone it is not likely that I will drop $9.00 to see it in the theater, and will have to see if I am ever motivated to rent it on DVD.

One other thought I have is regarding the interest this movie draws simply because Michael Stipe co-produces it. Objectively, I have to wonder, "Why?" I love REM, and think that Stipe is a great contributor to the world of music, but honestly when I see him or read him in interviews I don't get the impression that he has much of a clue about what real life is for most people. I'm not trying to be critical, just objective. So then, what would leave me to believe for even one moment that Stipe would be able to help create a cinematic contribution that produces believable insight to the lives of Christian teens any more than I believe that Michael Moore can put out a film that is balanced and objective (that is very dry sarcasm for anyone who missed that)?

I'm not looking to bash this film just because I may or may not be comfortable with the subject matter. I simply doubt it will be a film worth seeing, and that alone is a point worth making.

First just let me say "boycotting" the movie is EXACTLY what the film makers want you to do. "The Passion" got alot more butts in the seat BECAUSE of the controversy surrounding it. Do I think Mel's camp did it on purpouse. No, not really, but if they did he is a bloody genius!! Just do'nt see it. As to Christians being the villians.... have you met some Christians? I am actually a Christian film maker. The greatest opposition I have encountered thus far (and anticipate that I will continue to encounter) is from so called brothers and sisters in Christ. Not all mind you, but as a religious group we tend to eb far more judgmental and elitist then any other. Not trying to get off on a tear here but there is alot more in the Bible about love and tolerance then there is about judging others.

Do I think the themes behind "Saved" are appropriate for Christians? Not based on what I have heard (Jesus appears to a girl and tells here to sleep with a boy to save him from homosexuality) Just make a decision for yourself.

When I saw Mandy Moore scream "I am full of Christ's Love" and then throw a Bible at the girl's back, I couldn't stop laughing.. This movie does look pretty funny. I probably will see it.. Assuming I get to go to them movies sometime, which seldom happens.

Remember kiddies... there is a difference between fiction and non fiction

Of course there is a difference between fiction and nonfiction and we need to separate the two.....but as Christians isn't the first categorization we need to make is the difference between blasphemous and nonblasphemous movies? What movies as a Christian would you like to watch?

Nah. The best line in the trailer I saw was the girl saying "Feel the love of Jesus!" as she throws a bible at another girl's head. The argument over whether or not Jesus should be white was funny too.

I just saw an interview with one of the actors, I don't know how to spell his name but the one who was in the Home Alone movies, and it sounds like an offensive movie to me and I don't plan on seeing it. On the other hand 4 years ago I decided not to watch Dogma because it looked offensive but a year ago I bought the dvd and really liked it.

His interview was interesting because he talked about going to a Christian rock festival to do research for the film and people there got excited because they thought that meant he was a Christian and he didn't know how to explain he wasn't one of them but was just to prepare for making a movie. Lesson to be learned just because somebody visits a church or something Christian doesn't make them a Christian.
