  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Have any of you seen this movie? If so, was there anything you got from it?

I have mixed feelings about this movie. I think that some of the characters were poorly developed, and it was difficult to understand their point of view. I'm not sure whether this movie was intended to trash Christianity (or at least a cross-section of it). Obviously, there was some truth in the Mandy Moore character, but perhaps it provided an oversimplistic picture of what in means to be a Christian in contemporary American society.

Thoughts? Comments anyone?

I saw it. I have nothing against movies that mock in humor. If you can't laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at. Plus, Xian's are usually the first to mock at other faiths and beliefs. Can dish it out but not take it, usually.

The movie was pretty poorly written and shallow. A lot of what they meant to be funny really wasn't all that funny, though I did crack it when I saw Moore whip that Bible at the girl. I had much higher hopes for the movie than I got.

From what I have seen read about the director, it appears that he was trying to trash Christianity. Which is sad, really, because the themes are extremely legitimate, and there is a lot that he could have done with it if he wasn't so biased.

During these films, I try to see what I can salvage from it, and believe it or not, I think there were a lot of interesting elements. Some of the criticisms were sadly true, and anyone who doesn't believe this must have either led a sheltered life or isn't being entirely honest.

My biggest problem is that the characters weren't very well rounded. It appears that Hilary Faye gets more and more ugly throughout the film, but we aren't really shown why she would act this way. I feel that intolerance and hypocrisy is always the result of deeper insecurities, but none of this came out in the Hilary Faye character. I would have liked to be able to sympathise with her, but the director didn't give me anything to work with.

By the way, do think that the name of the character "Hilary Faye" was meant to allude to Tammy Faye Bakker - I think so.

I see what Machiavelli's saying, and at least can agree with the lack of character motivation behind the Hilary Faye character. But I really don't get that the director was out to "trash Christianity"--virtually all of the Christian characters are portrayed sympathetically. In fact, as a satire, the film doesn't really work at all because it doesn't go far enough and the characters are more real than exaggerated.

I'm not a big defender of Saved, but mostly because I think it's a mediocre film that never managed to figure out what it was trying to do.

Maybe I just like it because it's got Martin Donovan.

Anyone who says this movie paints Christians in a bad light needs to re-watch it and open their mind.

It's not a mockery at all they all Loved Jesus and it was about a group of teens that had stuff go wrong in their lives and how it tested their Faith(and also how some Adults' Faith was tested).
It's basically saying some Christians shouldn't stop Loving other human beings and shouldn't be judgemental at all. In one part even the "bad girl" reduces to Prayer in one small part.
It was a very good and very funny movie that didn't paint all Christians as freaks of nature-but as complex humans that deal with the fine line between being a good Christian and being tested rather than just judging others instead of Loving others.

It's about how sometimes you do the right thing or what you think is the right thing only to have it backfire then wonder why???But good comes of it all in the end and they show that in this film.

Highly recommended.

I enjoyed "Saved" very much, especially since I had never heard of it before I saw it on DVD. It has flaws, but it had an origianl concept and kept me interested the whole time. I also didn't find this film offensive at all: I think a lot of the complaints about this movie come from the fact that Mandy Moore's character is basically the villian and also the character most concerned with being a good Christian. People lose sight that all but two of the characters are Christian and the Patrick character is probably the best example of being a good Christian that I have seen in any movie. I have friends who refuse to watch this movie because misconceptions, I have encouraged them and encourage you to hold of judgements of this movie until you have seen it.

I would give it a 7/10
