  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Saved through child bearing?

Can someone give me an Orthodox interpretation of this scripture?

1 Tim 2:15
While men had a chance to gain glory through their works, women had a chance to gain glory through successful child care and education. Paul lived in an age when many women had to stay home with the children. A man might have farmed, hunted, built, fished, etc.

1 Tim 2:15

the self emptying love of a woman for a child is salvific, especially with the pain of it.

Moreover, because this scripture even exists it shows the fundamental tie that lies in a woman bearing children. God punished the woman at the fall to undergo much more pain in childbearing. The woman will never experience God's punishment for the ubiquitous sin without having children. The same thing can be said of man, that "he will be saved through the sweat of his brow." Since man was punished to work the ground by the sweat of his brow we know that mankind must go through his punishment just as the woman.

I wrote a bit on this in a blog post of mine:
