  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Silver and gold have I none...

But you have enough for your computer and that roof over your head. Stop the love of self (indwelling sin) and instead deny self and live Christ's life. That's living without sin.

Keep in mind Christ didn't have a place to lay His head because instead of loving self, He lived for others.

Do you have house and computer?

Mat 8:20
And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests,
but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”

What do you mean by reeducated?

Well after spending over 400 years in slavery, they would have forgotten a lot about the ways of God. The generation that went into slavery all died out, and maybe even the generation after that one too. So they pretty much need to be re-taught in the ways of God as opposed to the ways of Egypt.

And the evidence for that is that as soon as they lost sight of Moses and thought he was dead, the first thing they wanted to do was to set up a Golden Calf and worship it. That's what they saw and learnt from Egypt.

Absolutely! What was the religion of the Egyptians? Pagan...heathen, right? Do you realize that all non-Christian religions are based on salvation by works in appeasing an angry god(s)?

The Jews were raised in this environment for over 400 yrs. Please don't tell me this didn't affect them!

After all, why do you think the Jews entered into the Old Covenant? Didn't God know they couldn't keep the law? Yes, but they didn't know. Why?

Again, they were raised by the Egyptians and their religions influenced the Jews.....

Hence the giving of the law was to expose their self-righteousness and to place their self-confidence in the dust of the ground.

There are aspects of Egyptian religion that affected them. No doubt about that. But the Egyptians were not teaching them their religion. They were slaves remember. You said they were raised by Egyptians but that't not really a good way to describe it. Raised means the Egyptians took an active part in bringing them up. The Egyptians did not sit the Israelites down and explain their religion to them and explain that by doing xyz they would get salvation. What the Israelites adapted is what they saw being done. They saw them worshipping idols so they picked it up.

So I do not think the Israelites were really thinking about salvation all that much to be honest. They just wanted to stop being slaves. And then they wanted to get to a promised land where they could have their own land and live a good life. I think you are stretching things.

We are to be saved from darkness.Look at the world out there, darkness have taken over lives of the majority, there is murder, sexual abuse, rapes, wars, people do not know the right and wrongs..eg,same sex marriages.
Jesus died so that we can be saved from this spiritual torment facing the world now.
I was an addict,on alcohol,drugs,sex..all these were happening to me because I was in darkness, and I didn't realise the kingdom of darkness was tormenting me.
After Jesus saved me from all these, than I know I have been set free and free indeed. My life has grown from bad to good,my family is blessed,my children are blessed,my family has seen the favour of God in Jesus Christ

From a web article, “Judah Means Praise”

Quote
In response to the question "What does the name Judah mean?" by Dean VanDruff.
Judah means "praise", or "to praise".
Gen 29:35 (NIV) She conceived again, and when she gave birth to a son she said, "This time I will praise the Lord." So she named him Judah...
It is pronounced "Yehuda". It is where the word "Jew" comes from. Many of the other tribes were scattered or rejected by God, and so the Levites, Benjamin, and Judah were collectively called the "Jews": those left to "praise God" on earth. This praise/Jew double meaning runs throughout scripture...
Ro 2:29 (NIV) No, a man is a Jew if he is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a man's
praise is not from men, but from God. Ro 15:11 (NIV) And again, "Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles, and sing praises to him, all you peoples."
Interestingly, it is translated into English in the New Testament as the name "Judas". Judas was the representative "Jew", or un-Jew... as the case turned out.
Luke 17:17-18 (NIV) Jesus asked, "Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?"
This is a prophetic parable of what was to occur in general.
John 1:11 (KJV) He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
Thus, the contrast is made:
John 8:39-47 (NIV) "Abraham is our father," they answered. "If you were Abraham's children," said Jesus, "then you would do the things Abraham did. As it is, you are determined to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such things. You are doing the things your own father does." "We are not illegitimate children," [note the accusation here towards Jesus] they protested. "The only Father we have is God himself." Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and now am here. I have not come on my own; but he sent me. Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don't you believe me? He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God."
Rev 3:9 (NIV) [Jesus, again:] "'Behold, I will cause those of the synagogue of Satan, who say that they are Jews and are not, but lie--I will make them come and bow down at your feet, and make them know that I have loved you."
Joel 2:28 (NIV) "'And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit
on all people...'"
Lu 3:8 (NIV) "Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.
Mt 21:16 (NIV) "Do you hear what these children are saying?" they asked him. "Yes," replied Jesus, "have you never read, "'From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise'?"
Lu 10:21 (NIV) At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure."
Ps 51:15 (NIV) O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise.
Ps 71:23 (NIV) My lips will shout for joy when I sing praise to you-- I, whom you have redeemed.
Heb 13:15 (NIV) Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise--the fruit of lips that confess his name.
=====================

Romans 2
12For all who have sinned without the Law will also perish without the Law, and all who have sinned under the Law will be judged by the Law; 13for it is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified. 14For when Gentiles who do not have the Law do instinctively the things of the Law, these, not having the Law, are a law to themselves, 15in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them, 16on the day when, according to my gospel, God will judge the secrets of men through Christ Jesus.

Romans 2
17But if you bear the name “Jew” and rely upon the Law and boast in God, 18and know His will and approve the things that are essential, being instructed out of the Law, 19and are confident that you yourself are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness, 20a corrector of the foolish, a teacher of the immature, having in the Law the embodiment of knowledge and of the truth, 21you, therefore, who teach another, do you not teach yourself? You who preach that one shall not steal, do you steal? 22You who say that one should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? 23You who boast in the Law, through your breaking the Law, do you dishonor God? 24For “THE NAME OF GOD IS BLASPHEMED AMONG THE GENTILES BECAUSE OF YOU,” just as it is written.
25For indeed circumcision is of value if you practice the Law; but if you are a transgressor of the Law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision. 26So if the uncircumcised man keeps the requirements of the Law, will not his uncircumcision be regarded as circumcision? 27And he who is physically uncircumcised, if he keeps the Law, will he not judge you who though having the letter of the Law and circumcision are a transgressor of the Law? 28For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh. 29But he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that which is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter; and his praise is not from men, but from God.

Sin is counted only when law exists:

Genesis 4
7"If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it."

IOW, the Law existed before Moses.

The gamut of the Law ranges from being fair, to being merciful, to being loving. God asked Cain to be fair to Abel, be just to him, because Abel was made in God's image, a creature knowing justice, mercy and love.

Moses' Law on the other hand depicted a higher ideal, a love that required self sacrifice, to save a brother.

John 15
13"Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.

It was given to Israel to be identification as God's Chosen People. Israel was “clean”, not “sinners” as long as she manifested these attributes:

Mark 2
17And hearing this, Jesus said to them, "It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners."

Sinners, non-compliant. Here Israel is in infraction, non-compliant, “unclean”:

Luke 15
25“Now his older son was in the field, and when he came and approached the house, he heard music and dancing. 26“And he summoned one of the servants and began inquiring what these things could be. 27“And he said to him, ‘Your brother has come, and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has received him back safe and sound.’ 28“But he became angry and was not willing to go in; and his father came out and began pleading with him. 29“But he answered and said to his father, ‘Look! For so many years I have been serving you and I have never neglected a command of yours; and yet you have never given me a young goat, so that I might celebrate with my friends; 30but when this son of yours came, who has devoured your wealth with prostitutes, you killed the fattened calf for him.’ 31“And he said to him, ‘Son, you have always been with me, and all that is mine is yours. 32‘But we had to celebrate and rejoice, for this brother of yours was dead and has begun to live, and was lost and has been found.’”

And in not recognising God's supreme manifestation of love in the sending of Christ, to heal the world, heal Israel, she was disobedient:

Romans 11
30 Just as you who were at one time disobedient to God have now received mercy as a result of their disobedience, 31 so they too have now become disobedient in order that they too may now receive mercy as a result of God's mercy to you. 32 For God has bound all men over to disobedience so that he may have mercy on them all.

Israel was considered obedient until Christ came. What happened with the arrival of Christ?

By following the Law of Moses, she proclaimed God's future deliverance.

When Christ began His work, he was delivering God's plan of redemption, acting out God's obligation to His promise to Abraham, His righteousness, His faithfulness to His unconditional covenant.

By rejecting Christ, Israel was no longer following the Law. She was disobedient. Imagine, she thought she was THE Seed.

Galatians 3
16Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, "And to seeds," as referring to many, but rather to one, "And to your seed," that is, Christ.

Rejecting God's righteousness (faithfullness to keep His unconditional promise to Abraham by sending Christ to be born a Jew) they tried to establish a righteousness of their own:

Romans 10
3For
not knowing about God's righteousness and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.

Summary
Israel's obedience was in observing the Law, the minor requirements as well as the important ones, justice, mercy and love. All the points, the whole law, minor as well as major requirements:

James 2
6But you have dishonored the poor man. Is it not the rich who oppress you and personally drag you into court? 7Do they not blaspheme the fair name by which you have been called?
8If, however, you are fulfilling the royal law according to the Scripture, “YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF,” you are doing well. 9But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors. 10For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.

There was always a remnant that kept the Law faithfully, ensuring the survival of the nation.

Israel's disobedience was in rejecting God's means of salvation, this disobedience happending because it was prophesied, by being hidden in Scriptures, which spoke about Christ. It was God's premeditated/planned act, in order to break the wall between Jews and Gentiles, the false distinction made by physical circumcision, so that those who had faith in God would be identified as the true People of God.

We would do well to avoid interpreting the Law woodenly. The Law was to be observed in spirit, not in letter. Jesus observed the Sabbath as a Law in a way that it was a blessing, a means to manifest justice, mercy and love, whilst the Jews danced about the interpretation to suit their own circumstances and to benefit those who had property, such as livestock:

Luke 13
10And He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. 11And there was a woman who for eighteen years had had a sickness caused by a spirit; and she was bent double, and could not straighten up at all. 12When Jesus saw her, He called her over and said to her, “Woman, you are freed from your sickness.” 13And He laid His hands on her; and immediately she was made erect again and began glorifying God. 14But the synagogue official, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, began saying to the crowd in response, “There are six days in which work should be done; so come during them and get healed, and not on the Sabbath day.” 15But the Lord answered him and said, “You hypocrites, does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the stall and lead him away to water him? 16“And this woman, a daughter of Abraham as she is, whom Satan has bound for eighteen long years, should she not have been released from this bond on the Sabbath day?” 17As He said this, all His opponents were being humiliated; and the entire crowd was rejoicing over all the glorious things being done by Him.

In addition, God's resting from His work has the connotation of a person who builds a house and enters it to USE it.

John 5
15The man went away, and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well. 16For this reason the Jews were persecuting Jesus, because He was doing these things on the Sabbath. 17But He answered them, “My Father is working until now, and I Myself am working.”

Or like a man who builds a car and climbs into it so it can do what it was made to do: take him where he wants to go. Likewise God's Creation.

Homework Assignment

What is the character of the Mosaic Law?

What are we saved from?
What is the relevance of Law to God's People today?

How was God's character to be manifested in the observance of the Law in the case of the woman caught in adultery?

Free answer
We have a dilemma (dichotomy is a misnomer) of the seeing the Law to be good and holy, required for maintaining a high moral standard amongst God's People, to keep adultery in check, and yet on the other hand, we have the requirement for showing mercy, and sacrificial, loving, atoning action, love that makes reparation, compensates for a shortfall.

Gods People today must follow His Law not because it is binding on us. It was contractually so, because we were wedded to the Law before the Atonement, but now we are in Christ and since Christ died for the Law, we have fulfilled contractual obligations to it, vicariously in Christ, and are no longer under the Mosaic Administration.

Now we live in Christ, and through Christ. The Law of liberty and love, the Royal Law, sacrificial living, eternal life living is available to us, not as obligatory, but as privilege: an opportunity to fulfill the purpose of being created in the image of God. We are under no obligation to manifest the image of God, we are free to live for ourselves:

Acts 5
4"While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not under your control? Why is it that you have conceived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God."

We are free to live unfulfilled lives, but it is a stopgap move, asking for terms of peace, a request for time to consider a response, for how can we neglect such great a salvation?

Hebrews 2
1For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away from it. 2For if the word spoken through angels proved unalterable, and every transgression and disobedience received a just penalty, 3how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? After it was at the first spoken through the Lord, it was confirmed to us by those who heard, 4God also testifying with them, both by signs and wonders and by various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit according to His own will.

5For He did not subject to angels the world to come, concerning which we are speaking.
6But one has testified somewhere, saying,
“WHAT IS MAN, THAT YOU REMEMBER HIM?
OR THE SON OF MAN, THAT YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT HIM?
7“YOU HAVE MADE HIM FOR A LITTLE WHILE LOWER THAN THE ANGELS;
YOU HAVE CROWNED HIM WITH GLORY AND HONOR,
AND HAVE APPOINTED HIM OVER THE WORKS OF YOUR HANDS;
8YOU HAVE PUT ALL THINGS IN SUBJECTION UNDER HIS FEET.”
For in subjecting all things to him, He left nothing that is not subject to him. But now we do not yet see all things subjected to him.

So today if you hear His voice:

Hebrews 3
7Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit says,
“TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE,
8DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS AS WHEN THEY PROVOKED ME,
AS IN THE DAY OF TRIAL IN THE WILDERNESS,
9WHERE YOUR FATHERS TRIED Me BY TESTING Me,
AND SAW MY WORKS FOR FORTY YEARS.
10“THEREFORE I WAS ANGRY WITH THIS GENERATION,
AND SAID, ‘THEY ALWAYS GO ASTRAY IN THEIR HEART,
AND THEY DID NOT KNOW MY WAYS’;
11AS I SWORE IN MY WRATH,
‘THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST.’”

Remember, only one person wins the race. Will it be the old man or the new?

1 Corinthians 9
24Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets
the
prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.

Sacrificial living to make reparation for the shortfall for the world, which God loved so much that He sent His Son to make reparation for?

Colossians 1
24Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I do my share on behalf of His body, which is the church, in filling up what is lacking in Christ's afflictions.

ha ha.. And you my friend need to stop putting burdens upon those you will not nor do not carry yourself. :) IT is so much easier to bark at a tree than to take it and make something beautiful out of what you bark at.

Good thing we need not look for Moses any more. Now we have the living God that inwells His people through the blood of the Lamb. For He causes us to walk His way and we are no longer slaves to men but bond servants unto the Lord.

ManaZ, you misunderstand. What's his name claimed to be without sin. I was merely reminding him what it means to be without sin.

Hi Dreamer,

I am a full-time Christian minister with over 23 years free from drugs and alcohol. I was hooked on crack cocaine and the Lord helped me break free. With His help, I have overcome ALL addictions except the one the Bible says is good. I have "addicted [myself] to the ministry of the saints", (See 1Corinthians 16:15 KJV). In other words, I have devoted myself to helping Christians like you.

However, the first thing you need to do is be sure that you believe the true gospel message. There are false gospels out there and you may have heard and believed one of them (See Galatians 1:8 KJV).

OR you may have heard the true gospel and misunderstood it. Either way, you would not have the power to resist every temptation because you would not really be saved. So first be very sure that this is not the case and that you truly have the Spirit of Christ in you.

Please understand that I am NOT trying to offend you by questioning your salvation. I just want you to be absolutely sure that you have truly been born again. Once you are sure, I can help you resist every temptation to drink by teaching you what the Bible says about your situation and how to deal with it and by praying for you daily.

So go to my blog and read "The True Gospel" and leave a comment and we can go from there. If for some reason you can't leave a comment, email me at jbtentmaker@gmail.com. Here is a link to my blog: The True Gospel!.

Truly Concerned,
Jim Battle
