So a Saudi General may take the blame and be held accountable?

This so-called cover up did not take long to put together.

Saudi missing journalist Jamal Khashoggi: Explanation expected from Saudi Arabia as Mike Pompeo arrives

The officials told CBS News reporter Kylie Atwood that the Saudi government was expected to claim a mission was approved by King Salman's son, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (often referred to as MBS), to interrogate Khashoggi, but not kill him. They will say, according to Atwood's sources, that the journalist died as the result of an interrogation by Saudi operatives that (went wrong.)

I doubt that anyone would want to implicate the Royal family.

Even the goats hidden away up on top of some California (hidden) mountain have nothing negative to say regarding them.

They eat a lot of goat over there.

Sanctions until justice is served.

With Pompeo there, I’m sure the “offer” to detail FBI forensics teams was discussed. As an “offer they can’t refuse.” We do it for other nations but they usually want to get to the bottom of the truth. Thinking SA wants this out of the news cycle and not interested in the truth.

They have already had two forensic teams in to the Embassy and none were from the United States, don't expect to see that happening.

Interesting -- it also showed on TV a few hours before the teams were let in they had a real cleaning crew show up to clean the place up? Surprise surprise.

Guess it doesn't matter -- because they are admitting to most everything anyway.

Oops, we accidently tortured him to death. Sorry..

These things happen way more often in the Middle East.

As much as we are all surprised we should not be all that surprised.

God please have mercy on them and on us (sinners).

Okay that was interesting to read but, if not the phone it appears there is some other type of proof floating around otherwise the Saudis would not have came out from the dark so quickly?

If not the phone who exposed it?

M-Bob

Knowing how nosey the Turks are I wouldn't be afraid to say they have that building wired and/or have the place under electronic surveillance from adjacent buildings. They claim to have sound and video of what happened, but if they supply that to the US for example it would reveal how they're are accomplishing their surveillance. So I'm having some doubts as to them supplying the proof of what happened.

Something else to consider is Erdogan isn't exactly the best of allies right now, so you have to wonder if this isn't some sort of con job to cause a rift between the US and Saudi Arabia that they and Iran can benefit from.

A couple of weeks ago the foreign minister of Canada tweeted a criticism of the Saudi's human rights record. The Saudi's went ballistic and turned it into major international case. Now this happens. Increasingly the Saudi's are becoming a very powerful rogue state and yet the President does not have the guts to outright denounce them because profits are at stake.

We've never put sanctions on SA before and all presidents in our modern times (Bush, Clinton, Obama, Trump) have strong personal ties with the royal family, in one respect or another.

Saudi's have already said that if we take ANY action against them they will respond with even stronger actions against us.

So we best be prepared for what happens if we do demand sanctions. It will hurt the average American - which is what the left wants certainly, and right before elections is best..

This crisis is almost custom made for right before an election, to be honest, because your damned if you do and damned if you don't. I'm surprised it wasn't organized by the democrats and wouldn't be shocked if it was.

That said, we should have the conversation as a nation. To what extent do we care about what other sovereign nations do where concerns their laws? Their citizens?

In the past its always been to whatever extent we can afford to care, or caring when its in our interest anyway, which is why Saudi Arabia and then China have always gotten a pass, whereas countries that have nothing to offer us don't, or who have something we want, which is always great when you just want to assuage a guilty conscious for when you looked the other way..

But for real.. we need to decide whether or not we care about human rights and if so, then be willing to bear the brunt of that decision economically, or, decide whether or not we will continue to simply only care to the extent we can afford to - which entails a lot of looking the other way.

Only slightly.

Never forget that the Saudis and the Turks are both Sunni and the Iranians are Shiites. The Turks will jockey for favor ahead of the Saudis, just as the Saudis jockey against the UAE, Kuwait, et all.

But they're not going to go so far as to benefit Iran against Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia has always been a rogue state in their continue export and support of radical Sunni Wahhabism, which is the cause of all Islamic terrorism outside the Middle East itself.
