Hi all, I'm new~

Ok, so I was raised a Christian, but being a typical angsty teenager, I fell away/formed my doubts a while back. For a while, I didn't have any actual reasons to disbelieve, because I didn't really care about having reasons. I have since then, however, figured out some specific things that bother me about Christianity that perhaps I just don't understand all aspects of. Please share your knowledge :)

The way I understand it/it has been explained to me, Satan was an angel, who like the other angels, was created with free will. He became jealous of God and rebelled and was kicked out because evil cannot be tolerated by God. Here are my problems with this: how was there a such thing as evil? Was it simply that Satan saw God's power and wanted to have that kind of power himself? And before that, as I understand it, God exists without the constraints of time, and knows everything before it is going to happen, so he theoretically knew exactly what Satan was going to do, and still created him anyway?

I guess those are my main questions, I tried not to sound disrespectful lol. Thanks,
~luinloth

Very reasonable questions.

Free will implies that it may be used, and therefore there would always be the possibility of it being used wrongly. The only other option is to give us no ability to choose independently of God to be robots.

When Satan chose to rebel he created evil as we know it - the opposite of what God is. That's what Adam and Eve discovered too - there was knowledge of something other than God's perfection.

Evil: coming out of God's will/design. With free will evil comes about which causes major problems with God's original design.

Hi there. You sound like an intellegent young person. I know it's sometimes hard to wrap your mind around certain things. In The Desire of Ages by Ellen White, she helps explain the very thing you are trying to understand. The following is directly from her book. I hope it helps you to understand. Sin originated in self-seeking Lucifer, the covering cherub, who desired to be first in heaven. He sought to gain control of heavenly beings, to draw them away from their Creator, and to win their homage to himself. Therfore he misrepresented God, attributing to him the desire for self exaltation. Satan's deceptive power was to be broken. This could not be done by force. The exercise of force is contrary to the principles of God's government; He desires only the service of love; and love cannot be commanded; it cannot be won by force or authority. Only by love is love awakened. His character must be manifested in contrast to the character of Satan. The plan for our redemption was not an afterthought, or a plan formulated after the fall of Adam. From the beginning, God knew of the apostasy of Satan, and of the fall of man through the deceptive power of the apostate. God did not ordain that sin should exist, but He foresaw its existence, and made provision to meet the terrible emergency. So great was His love for the world, that He covenanted to give His only begotten Son, "that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life" John 3:16. God bless

Your last sentence is not to far away from a Christian belief.

Yes, God knew what satan was going to do and created him. I do believe that God allow evil to exist so that us humans have a choice to accepot Jesus and God's ways or not. God want us humans to follow him because we choose to and not because we have to. God does not want robots but lovintg children that cares what he does. Since God created the evil, he can protect his chioldren from the evil!!!! Psalms 121

Dear luinloth. God is Love, and Love cannot even think evil, what has our God of Love, to do with evil? Satan is all that is EVIL, Satan is Evil in all its aspects, Satan hates everything God stands for, he is the Arch-Enemy of God. Jesus vanquished Satan on Golgotha, Death had also lost its sting, when God raised Jesus. Satan is the conquered foe of all humanity, but he will not accept it. I believe Satan is the god of all evil, and all evil followers, Satan, who just was on Earth one day. I say this humbly and lovingly, luinloth, and send greetings. Emmy, your sister in Christ. P.S. I have heard, there was a very evil king of Babylon, called Lucifer, but he was not Satan.
