Jhessel has started two threads on this subject and has made two comments on the other one which I would like to share here.

Does anyone know about that band that is promoting terrorism? I think a band like this needs to be stopped. They are called Lnigmatic. Any group that is promoting young people to rebel against the government or do things that can harm others needs to be stopped. They supposedly have some song called pipe bomb that calls for all terrorists to attack the U.S. This is what rock and roll music has become? America is about freedom, but terrorism is about hurting other people.

Rock didn't start with the Beatles, it's foundations started decades before that. The roots of rock lie in jazz/blues and ragtime syncopation, originally developed by black communities descended from slaves. I've yet to see a much more faithful or devout section of society then that.

Zander, I agree: the Beatles were a mediocre band hardly deserving of their overblown status. I don't understand what people see in them ... it's not like they can compare to many of the other great bands. The Beatles versus U2? The Beatles versus Pink Floyd? The Beatles versus Crowded House? The latter wins easily every time.

Thank goodness there are other people in this world who do not think the Beatles were the greatest band ever. However, you seem to have the same problem with U2 lol. Granted I have listened to alot of their stuff, but there are some truly great bands you didn't mention. How about the Velvet Underground, the Doors, or maybe Radiohead?

Yeah, I'd agree with you about the Doors and the Velvet Underground but Radiohead.. meh, they're way overrated if you ask me.

They are not in the same league as VU, I'll give you that, but I really like them. OK Computer is one of the most emotional, cathartic albums I have ever heard. But it's cool to see someone else likes VU. What's your favorite VU album?

... Well technically the story of the origins of rock is pretty infamous.
It's in a movie called Cross Roads.
Basically an African-American man was walking at night with his guitar when he stopped at a crossroads. A man appeared before him and said : If you give me your soul, I'll make you play music no ones ever heard before. He accepted.
From then on, he always saw/heard a small demon on his shoulder. He played at various gigs and the sound he made was utterly revolutionary.
He died at i think the age of 29 by what people say was poisoning.

But as many people had said before. Everything Satan uses was originally made by God. Rock was also something that originated from God and no other.

Ha, yes, but U2 IS the greatest, or at least in my opinion. At least they have musical talent, insanely good live performances, brilliant lyrics, and so on.

Radiohead = snore.
The Doors = haven't heard enough by them
I haven't heard the Velvet Underground, but I hear they're good. Want to recommend a song to me?

Sure man. Start with Heroin or maybe Venus in Furs. Heck, just get their first album The Velvet Underground and Nico. It's great all the way through. If you really like the experimental stuff on that, hunt down White Light/White Heat. The last track on that album is called "Sister Ray"- a 17 minute noise jam. Pure brilliance. This stuff changed the way I looked at rock music.
