On a sinking boat, you have all the free will to stay on instead of get on a life boat. So yes.
So your god puts people on a sinking boat then makes them beg to be saved. Nice guy.

I think a better question is; what purpose does(should) prison serve? Hopefully a correctional purpose, which in turn should make us reconsider what hells purpose is.
But what about prisoners who won't be rehabilitated? Is imprisonment not still justified?

More like He hands you a life vest and tells you to get on a life boat, pointing out where they are. All you have to do is put the vest on and listen to Him. Yet some people are foolish enough that they'll just simply deny being on a sinking ship and insist they don't need to put on the life vest or look for any life boat. The blame for what happens to those people lies squarely on their own shoulders.

I'm atheist, so this is something I don't have to worry about.

No, but earlier you indicated it should be on God's.
If the god/s exist, and the bible's narrative is correct, then yes, it's responsible.

But this academic for me, not something that keeps me up at night.

So, when God hands you the life vest and points out the life boats, telling you to go to one... it's *HIS* fault that you reject the vest, ignore the life boats, and say, "no thanks, I don't believe a problem exists"? Alrighty then.

Is it my fault if I smash your thumb with a hammer, then tell you it's your fault if you reject the ice pack?

Your god/s created hell, then sends you there if you don't "choose" him. Is that really a choice?
Of course it's a choice. The existence of consequences to a choice don't preclude the existence of the choice. You're not choosing God. It doesn't seem like your choice was affected.

I find the notion of 'vicarious redemption' immoral.
I find atheism immoral. What's your point? Besides, the criminal justice system allows for the same type of thing. Some crimes are punishable by a fine rather than imprisonment. Do you think the government cares who actually pays the fine? Anyone can put up the money and pay the fine on the accused's behalf. No one complains about that being unjust.

Yeah, 'cept no one made you steal, in your scenario.

Think about it some more.
