  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I already see my daughter exhibiting signs of not only understanding, but being able to use sarcasm.  She's 2.  Of course, her mother and I are King and Queen of Sarcastopia, so perhaps she has no choice.

I think it mostly has to do with upbringing, I have a friend who is 26 and can't catch sarcasm.  My mom still has some trouble catching it (imagine her frustration with me....).

I think sarcasm is an important tool in teaching kids not to take life so seriously all the time.  I also think that 64 kids can not in any way truly represent all children in general.

Interesting!

Neither of my kids are sarcastic though my son does have a great sense of humor. I tend to be sarcastic myself. Usually it is done in fun, but there have been times when I realized that my snappy remark was rooted in frustration or anger.

I agree sarcasm can be a tool used to help kids cope with some tough things in life. I think ANY sense of humor is essential to a kid's coping skills. As long as kids are not hurting others with snotty remarks then it's OK to be funny.

All of my kids are sarcastic but in a friendly manner. There is such a thing as cruel sarcasm which should definitely be avoided.
I think being able to understand sarcasm and other types of humor is a sign of intelligence IMHO.

Dewjunkie, I also live in the Kingdom of Sarcastopia. :)

lol a few years ago when i was getting grounded and punished for my witty repertoire they didnt call it good ole sarcasm they called it talkin smart, back talkin, or my favorite "askin for it......i wish i'd had parents more like ya'll maybe then I wouldve gotten less spankings. I always did have a smart mouth, I just couldnt help myself though, lol I still can't help myself although I do pray about it often....."Lord help me to shut my mouth and to pause and think about what I'm saying and then say it in a nicer way"......unfortunately half the time it doesnt seem to be working, I tend to say whats on my mind.

My favorite was "Don't talk when I talk to you.Do you hear me? Answer me"

i wish i'd had parents more like ya'll maybe then I wouldve gotten less spankings
Don't bet on it:mad:
I have been praying about it,and starting to see that my short fuse, is starting to subside.

Lately I find myself just waiting, thinking about it, then brush it off. They're just looking for a response most of the time, when they don't get one, it's not fun anymore:)

But sometimes it can't be ignored.

I'm still seeking guidance in this area myself:pray:
