  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

'Yes yes yes' you say 'another Christmas related post, it's too early to think about it'

Sorry folks, this is just a case of trying to be prepared before the silly season descends on us. Sometimes it's easier for all if we plan well in advance. Anyhow I found this prayer over at OC and thought I'd share it with you.

The Santa Prayer

The Sleigh Was All Packed, The Reindeer Were Fed
But Santa Still Knelt By The Side Of The Bed

"Dear Father," He Prayed "Be With Me Tonight
There's Much Work To Do And My Schedule Is Tight

I Must Jump In My Sleigh And Streak Through The Sky
Knowing Full Well That A Reindeer Can't Fly

I Will Visit Each Household Before The First Light
I'll Cover The World And All In One Night

With Sleigh Bells A-Ringing, I Will Land On Each Roof
Amid The Soft Clatter Of Each Little Hoof

To Get Into The House Is The Difficult Part
So I'll Slide Down The Chimney Of Each Childs' Heart

My Sack Will Hold Toys To Grant All Their Wishes
The Supply Will Be Endless Like The Loaves And The Fishes

I Will Fill All The Stockings And Not Leave A Track
I Will Eat Every Cookie That Is Left For My Snack

I Can Do All These Things Lord, Only Through You
I Just Need Your Blessing, Then It's Easy To Do

All This Is To Honor The Birth Of The One
That Was Sent To Redeem Us, Your Most Holy Son

So To All Of My Friends, Least Your Glory I Rob
Please Lord, Remind Them Who Gave Me This Job "

Amen

The Perfect Christmas Poem
T'was the night before Christmas
and all through the town
Not a sign of Baby Jesus
was anywhere to be found.

The people were all busy
with Christmas time chores
Like decorating, and baking,
and shopping in stores.

No one sang "Away in a manger,
no crib for a bed".
Instead, they sang of Santa
dressed-up in bright red.

Mama watched Martha Stewart,
Papa drank beer from a tap.
As hour upon hour
the presents they'd wrap

When what from the T.V.
did they suddenly hear?
'Cept an ad... which told
of a big sale at Sears.

So away to the mall
they all flew like a flash...
Buying things on credit ...
and others with cash!

And, as they made their way home
From their trip to the mall,
Did they think about Jesus?
Oh, no... not at all.

Their lives were so busy
with their Christmas time things
No time to remember
Christ Jesus, the King.

There were presents to wrap
and cookies to bake.
How could they stop and remember
who died for their sake?

To pray to the Savior...
they had no time to stop.
Because they needed more time
to "Shop til they dropped!"

On Wal-mart! On K-mart!
On Target! On Penney's!
On Hallmark! On Zales!
A quick lunch at Denny's

From the big stores downtown
to the stores at the mall
They would dash away, dash away,
and visit them all!

And up on the roof,
there arose such a clatter
As grandpa hung icicle lights
up on his brand new step ladder

He hung lights that would flash.
He hung lights that would twirl.
Yet, he never once prayed to Jesus...
Light of the World.

Christ's eyes... how they twinkle!
Christ's Spirit... how merry!
Christ's love... how enormous!
All our burdens... He'll carry!

So instead of being busy,
overworked, and uptight
Let's put Christ back in
Christmas and enjoy
some good nights!

Merry Christmas, my friends!

Hmm, that's very nice but it's too early for Christmas.

Last weekend my priest told me we're starting Christmas baskets already. And my mom just came in my room a few minutes ago and told me if i got bored I could start wrapping presents.

It may seem early to you, but lets look at the facts. It is 63 days until Christmas.

Things to consider - I get paid fortnightly so therefore I have 5 pays left in which to purchase gifts for the 6 kids, 3 step-kids, 1 son-in-law and 2 grandkids, any othre family members and friends.

There are 9 Sundays left until Christmas. Since Sunday is the most logical day that parishoners would bring in donations to go into the Christmas baskets for shut-ins or those in need and ideally you would need to have
all donations in at least a fortnight before Christmas, then including today you would have 7 weeks to donate for this project.

My children are at school. As I'm in Australia, our school year runs from Januay to December, so the kids finish school this year on Friday 10th December. Now the Christmas theme in the classroom will run for around 3 weeks, so I have 3 weeks to prepare for this and gather anything that they might need in class - this includes tinsel and decorations for the preschoolers, Cards to be given out to the 20-25 kids in each class (I have 5 kids at school this year), and small presents for the teachers. We are also in the process of organizing the Christmas Carol night to be held at the school, and making items to be sold on the Christmas Craft Stall.

And lastly Christmas Day for the extended family will be celebrated at my house this year, so I will be looking at having around 50 adults/kids descending on the house on Christmas Day for lunch and/or dinner. Therefore I'm already buying, baking and freezing anything that I can to make the load easier.

Now, over and above all of this, I want to celebrate Christmas as a day for Christ. I want to be able to focus on Him and the blessings he brings to my life every day. In order to do this I require some peace and organisation. So I start planning early. I know I can afford to donate food for the Hampers - I have already brought it, I know I can give small gifts on the angel tree - I have the money put aside for when the tree goes up, and I know that I am fed up with the commercialisation of this wonderful day - this is why I planned early and decided that the children will receive 3 gifts only this year from us on Christmas Day, to represent the three gifts that that Christ received from the Three Wise Men. But I will also be celebrating St Nicholas Day on December 6 with a small gift each, and the 12 days of Christmas 26 - 6/01 will be celebrated - with the message of Christ and what he has given us. And lastly i want to celebrate Advent as a whole and have been lucky enough to stumble over a site that has daily scripture readings for Advent for the kids, and information of Jesse trees etc.

I can choose to get lost in the Christmas rush or I can Choose to fosuc on what erally counts. This is just my way of choosing.

Oh, and don't forget that those organisations that provide meals on Christmas Day for the Homeless and those in need, always require volunteers to help out and the sooner we are able to notify them of our availablity and decision to commit to this wonderful project, the better prepared they are to truly help those in need.
