Shared DNA? Isn't that to be expected since all life - as in life forms - come from the same place? I'm guessing here that you believe all life on earth "came from" earth. You could be one of those alines seeded earth dudes.

Chromosomes are known to break and form two or more new chromosomes, or fuse into one. The chromosomes of the potato and the potato lineage may have undergone many such changes, and the human lineage may have undergone a different series, resulting in the potato having more chromosomes. The number of chromosomes of a species has little to do with the complexity of the organism or the amount of DNA.

And, though I am no geneticist, when studied, isn't there almost infinite numbers now seen on the double helix? We're not "as close as" we think to other species right? It's like almost being alive. And why is it Doc, that a supposedly incredibly tiny amount of difference (says you) in the DNA of an ape and a human, doesn't produce some mutation throw-backs every now and then of a human woman giving birth to a full-blown chimp? I mean my son has a heck of lot more hair on his back than I do! But, he still "looks" fully human. Far as I can tell. Like I said I am not a geneticist.
