• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So I went and saw the doctor yesterday and after only talking to me for less then 30 minutes....he prescribed me Bupropion. I am confused if I want to take it or stay on the SAM-e longer to see if it will be better for me. I have only been taking SAM-e since I have only been taking it since Tuesday.

What concern me was the guy never heard of SAM-e and just said that all herbals are not effective as the other meds, yet I have read some interesting stuff about studies done on SAM-e.

Has anyone taken Bupropion and SAM-e, which one do you think is better?

I am going to see what kind of 2nd opinion I can get but making an appointment with a shrink is extremely hard in this area. I might see what my therapist has to say Tuesday.

I am also reading a really good book called The New Bible Cure for Depression and Anxiety. The author is a doctor and has a number of other books.

I am also slowly changing my diet to mainly be organic and healthy.

This question could be well addressed by a pharmacist. They have extensive knowledge of medications and possible interactions.

Been reading about sam-e....can we call it Sammy?

It looks more impressive then the other herbal treatments I was promised, looks like it does a little bit of everything.

I tried st johns warts and omega fish oils, neither did jack for me.

I was also on buporion (wellbutrin right?) And it made me super excited and hopeful, but to the point where I couldn't sleep at night, then the reality of how hard life is hit me and I crashed and was back in the hospital.

Yeah he said to the wellbutrin in the mornings and not on an empty stomach.

I think I want to try the Sammy for another week or two before I give the meds a chance. I am not against meds at all, I am just feeling unsure about them.

I'm on Wilburton and it helps me stay focus and not so much anxiety but each person is different from taking it. I also take another med but its at night... Some say they can tell a difference when I am not on it or don't take it when I do.. I am like a bear without it.. So as most say and do, keep in touch with who prescribes the medicine so you'll know how it work for you or not..It takes a bit to know what combo of meds.. Mine is 75mg 2x a day..
