A sure salvation
This checkpoint of our salvation covers some of the ways to assure us so that
"we may come boldly to the throne of grace"
(1) The record of the written word
"1 John 5:10-12 .. that God has given us eternal life and this life is in His Son. Those that have the Son have life"
Is Jesus your personal savior? This sweet assurance will make you a stronger Christian and enable you to lead others to know Him.
(2) The witness of the Holy Spirit
"Romans 8:16 ..the Spirit (of God) witnesses with our spirit that we are the children of God"
Not might be or shall be but we are..His children
(3) The finished work of Christ
"John 19:30 ..He said..it is finished and He bowed His head and died"
His part of the work of salvation was complete.
There are many professors of religion_; but fewer possessors of Christ. The Lord Himself warned that there would be many saying
" Lord, have we not done many wonderful works in Your Name? "
But according to Matt 7:22-23 He will say "depart from me workers of sin"
Therefore "examine yourself, whether ye be in the faith"
Fruits of Faith
(1) Was your faith a real desire to escape from self/satan/and the world?
"Rom 3:23 all have sinned and come short of the glory of God"
"Rom 8:2 ..Spirit of life in Christ.. made me free from the law of sin and death"
"Rom 11:32 For God has imprisoned all people in their own disobedience so He could have mercy on everyone"
Faith requires a realistic look at the truth of what God has done.
(2) Have you accepted Christ as your personal savior
"Acts 16:31 Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved"
"1 John 5:12 They that have the Son have life"
"Rom 6:23 the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life thru Jesus Christ our Lord.
It isn't a belief in a church or a pastor, altho they could be the means of drawing you into His loving arms, but only Christ at centre and circumference will bring you home.
(3) Have old things passed away and all things become new?
"2 cor 5:17 ..if anyone be in Christ, they are a new creature, old things have passed away and behold! all things are new!"
Hating the old ways of sin (that we once loved or accepted) and loving the things of the Spirit of God (that we once hated or looked down upon)
A new life of pushing off the old dead of winter to be replaced with new foliage of life renewed.
God's Signposts
(1) Enjoying a new walk
"1 John 3:9 .. whosoever is born of God does not practise sin"
Sin doesn't rule in the new life. The powerful hold of sin over a life has been broken and life unfolds into the fruit of the Spirit.
(2) Bringing forth a new disposition
"1 John 2:15 Love not the world neither the things that are in the world..if anyone love the world the love of the Father is not in them"
Loving sinners but not the sin. no longer loving the vain things of this world, but progressively manifesting a hunger and thirst for the things of God.
(3) Bringing forth a new affection
a welling up in the life such things as
(a) the preciousness of Jesus:
"joy unspeakable and full of glory" " The sweetest Name"
(b) the bible is cherished:
as the Living Word
(c) prayer is a delight:
God talks to us in His Word and we speak to Him in prayer
(d) Joy in Christian fellowship:
"1 John 3:14 We know that we have passed from death to life because of our love for each other"
(e) our heart interests are in heaven
"where thief cannot steal"
