But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to SALVATION THROUGH SANCTIFICATION of the Spirit & belief of the truth.

Sanctification is part of the lifelong process of salvation. And sanctification is being perpetually & progressively regenerated from above, mentally & spiritually renewed, morally reformed, & transformed from an old human being into a new Heavenly being. So sanctification is continuously being born again.

2 CORINTHIANS 4:16
Therefore we faint not. Even though our outward man is rotting through, yet our inward man is being renewed day after day.

renewed = new again = born again

Welcome !
When we receive His Holy Spirit, He makes His home in us. Sanctification is the process of cleansing that home to conform the believer into the image of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. We are in Him and He is in us. Sanctification only lasts a lifetime. It begins after regeneration and ends upon death which can happen just after being born again or many years later. My point is, Sanctification is the fruit of His Holy Spirit in one's life and not a perpetual regenerator over and over but a Helper, like He said.
Blessings

Why is sanctification a life long process ?
Were we not reborn perfectly consecrated, set apart, atoned for, and holy ?
The "job" of a Christian, is to grow from that holy starting point, in grace and knowledge !

While in the flesh & in the world during this earthly lifetime, we are almost constantly tempted. And ES/OSAS, while in the flesh & in the world during this earthly lifetime, is a lie. A soul is not saved instantly & totally by momentary faith, but constantly & finally (after death) through maintained fidelity. Only after a soul has followed Jesus Christ all the way to Heaven is it eternally secure & always safe.

Yes He is a perpetual regenerator over and over. That is exactly what the phrase "our inward man is being renewed day after day" means.

That is actually conforming. We are regenerated once. But this is simply different understandings. Thanks for sharing!

Temptations can be resisted. (James 4:7)

Agreed.
Thanks be to God though, for His intercession and aid in the fight to continue on "in Him".

I agree, and thank God for the means to to it.

Hi, and like what you've shared. I see sanctification as one of the attributes God gives at rebirth. Some see it as something that is progressively changing us as you've mentioned, but sanctification is something God uses to save us, and not something that is progressive. Sanctification just means something set apart for God, like holiness, which as salvation, does not admit in degrees, and is why Scripture never uses it in a progressive manner. I also realize that many have this understanding about sanctification, but there is no Scripture support for this definition, as sanctification is always mentioned in a permanent manner and not progressive.

"I believe even the dictionary has it wrong: the state of growing in divine grace as a result of Christian commitment after baptism or conversion." -Marriam-Webtster

It's not and added attribute but a given attribute during receiving salvation, like holiness, which is given at salvation and not after salvation. Two examples of the five usages in Scripture (1Co 1:30; 1Th 4:3, 4; 2Th 2:13, 1Pe 1:2) is "For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication; That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honor."

It's ok of course if we disagree here, just wanted to share my belief on such an important doctrine. God bless!
