• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hi, I've just started creating a story, but wasn't sure what plot to go for. But then I had an eureka moment at work this afternoon. The main character decides to have a summer haircut (buzz cut), then during the night she has a strange dream where she's being burnt at the stake at a witch trial.

Would the accused have their heads shaved? I've heard that it happened to female collaborators in WW2.

The only such thing from Salem that I know of was the widow Dorcas Hoar. She was found guilty of witchcraft and sentenced to hang. She then confessed and was reprieved of her death sentence on account of her confession.
As part of her reprieve, she was ordered to cut her hair. Apparently she had a four foot lock of hair that she had plaited, which the accusers called an evil Elf-lock. She was very unwilling to have it cut, but the court insisted in the end that it had to be.

As far as I know, the cutting of hair was not part of standard witch trials. It was however something done to suspected prostitutes, hence the cutting of the hair of collaborators during WWII for sleeping with the enemy (presumably for favours or lenient treatment).

Thank you for confirming that. I just wanted to make sure as if I do have my story published, I wouldn't need to worry about someone coming up to me and saying that it wasn't politically correct. :)
