I'd like to use the Old Testament as a guide, but I wouldn't want anyone to accuse me of picking and choosing only the stuff I like. So, is it ok to stone to death rebellious sons or daughters and adulterers and rape victims? Make widow's without a son to marry their brother-in-law, or not allowing people to wear mixed fabrics, eat pork, or shrimp and lobster?

There's New Testament warrant to string him up too.

But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to [execute] wrath upon him that doeth evil. - Romans 13:4

You MUST remember some things are culteral. Eating of certain meats and not eating others are due to sacrificial purposes and due to beliefs and laws surrounding said clean and unclean and sacrificial. We no longer sacrifice things. Therefore the laws of clean and unclean animals have passed away.

Stoning is illegal in the US last I checked ;) , so, we need to stick with practices of the death penalty we are allowed to use (and other countries as applicable)

This is absurd........

So Jesus would echo this line of hateful thinking, is that what your suggesting? Are you a Christian? Do you believe in forgiveness?

Here we are the so-called civilised nations going into a country we had no business in, toppling a leader and turning the country into a complete sectarian state of civil war. We want to establish a democracy over there and one of the first acts we decide to carry out to prove how "civilised" we are is to hang the former dictator.

Well done, once again we have excelled ourselves and set the perfect example

I cannot even make sense of this post???

First off, I am very much opposed to the sentence of death for Hussein. I would hope he would live and ask for forgiveness and become Christian. Like I said in my post, if he hangs he has less time to do these things and we have less time to help him in this endeavor.

Also I believe his own people in an Iraq court handled the case, not the USA.

I do not see him as repentant right now. This does not mean that he will never repent. Life imprisonment would give him more time to change.

So what's the sword for in Romans 13:4 ... shaving?
And what's with the wrath talk in the verse if we're gonna give them a cot, bed, meals and an exercise room?

But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to [execute] wrath upon him that doeth evil. - Romans 13:4

No matter what they have done, is it appropriate that we give the appearance of thirst for their blood?

If all governments are ordained of God then we toppled one and created a state of anarchy, anarchy is the ultimate state of confusion, who is the author of confusion?

I was an adulteror, do you wish to stone me?

I have repented, and will not do it again, but I am condemed according to the old covenant.

How are we supposed to try and evangelize a country we conquered?

Its done now, and trying to rectify the situation is difficult, but Its not something to take pride in.

It makes me sad to see people that are against the death of hussein, mainly cuz he will not have time to become christianized. I am truly dissapointed in the fact that we have forgotten the very essence of our religion, its almost like a game to see how many people we can convert. I truly believe that if Jesus would be alive right now, he would be ashamed of what has become of his great religion and philosophy. The way to spread Christianity is through good deeds and converting someone is not the answer to all the problems.

Three things... He is alive right now, He does see it, and I have no doubt we are breaking His heart.

The numbers game is why I left the best church I ever had. They were so worried about appealing to the teens (which isn't bad at all) that they forgot church is about growth not witness. Revival and missions are for witnessing. Church is supposed to be about growing and learning.

Saddam's heart has been hardened. This is Biblical. After denial for so long of opportunity, God hardens their hearts. Saddam is an old man... and he's out of time.

If love and forgiveness mean no accountability, then we've eliminated the need for prisons, haven't we?

Since forgiveness keeps coming up, let's look at how God handles forgiveness, in this case to David.

When confronted with the Bathsheba incident, David immediately asked forgiveness. The response? "The LORD also has put away your sin; you shall not die. Nevertheless, because by this deed you have utterly scorned the LORD, the child who is born to you shall die."

Later, David takes a census, but without even being confronted, realizes he was wrong, and confesses. In this case, God lets him choose the punishment to befall Israel because of his actions.

Our loving God forgives, but we must still face the consequences of our sin.

... In other words, Saddam is going to meet his Maker. SOOO, ultimately, he will probably recieve a final chance before his hanging and God will be the ultimate Decider.
