• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

My son is 21 years old. He is an autistic/asperger. We have faced tough time in our daily life. We came from a different country. Comparing to native Americans, our English is not strong. Right now my son is studying in a local community college. You can image how difficult for him. We have to use two different languages both in work place and home.

His syndrome is complicated, recently he hates his Mom's work place. He tries to control her, asks her to change her career. The company my wife works on has a good medical benefit, the copay is low because she works in a hospital. My son insists to find new doctors and dentists away from the hospital. The hospital can provides my son's tuition in the college. But my son wants to reject to use the money as he hates the hospital. Even he drives the car he always tries to avoid away the see the hospital and its neighborhood. We don't believe that if we change a resident place or career will solve the problem because new problem will arise. The reason is a guy in his high school always bulled him and the father worked in the hospital but it was long time ago.

He often hits himself and has poor anger management skills. Once a time he tried to open the car's door and jumped out while I was driving because of some unhappy thing. The other day he destroyed a sharp glass stuff and we had to call 911 to bring him to emergency room. We do want to bring to a clinical psychologist but he refuses now(he was there a few times).

Last night, he cried to us "go away" and something like "I am the worst trash in the world." and "I hate xxx(my wife's former coworker)".

Sad and Frustrated! I do need advice.

You can't let your son dictate where your wife will work... or make any other life-altering decisions for your family. Clearly, by your information, he is not capable of making rational decisions.
Since he hasn't had luck with a therapist, maybe you could ask him if he'd want to get some help here?
Bottom line is, he's "different" from "normal" people and he has to find a way to deal with it and accept it.
I'm still trying, so I know it's not easy.
Good luck to you.
