  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A note to the children:

Dearest little ones: ....

And most of all tell mommy and daddy and your Rabbi that things will be ok and that a gentile man wrote you a letter and said: Isreal is protected this day by the righteous gentiles.

bless you

Hix,
I was thinking about your post this morning as I drove the children to school. My daughter (10) was asking about the press conference tomorrow and saying 'what is the point? people will always hate us when they don't even know us', etc. We briefly talked about anti-semitism through history and how its true that many people will hate us....BUT that we are following G-d and He will not abandon us. And that there are many, many people who, even if they don't agree with us theologically, will stand with us because they also love G-d and His people.

Thank you, Achi

lo, Thank you achoti!

Its so easy to give up at this point, our people have been oppressed from the beginning, always hated and afflicted and cast out. Regardless though men may do this, G-d is faithfull and just and will never forsake us, take a look at the picture in my sig "He will NOT forget the covenant of our fathers, ever" he loves us. And the Tanach says that one day the gentile nations will be stunned to see that all along G-ds arm was revealed to his covenant people, B'nei Yisrael, that 4000 years of hatred and countless attempts to wipe us from the face of the earth could never succeed, becuase He is our G-d and we are his people.

Read Proverbs 30:31 achoti, it should provide a lift for you ;)
Shalom and G-d bless

Update...

The prayer service was nice, there were pastors there, as well as people from some area churches. Some people were teary eyed when our synagogue president spoke of when he was a little boy in Germany, he remembered kristalnacht...and said that when he drove up to the synagogue Saturday morning, the pieces of shattered glass were gleaming and shining in the sun and for a moment he felt as if he were that same little boy, he was transported back to Germany in November 1938 and the pain was so heavy.

Our cantor lead everyone in singing Oseh Shalom, the rabbi and one of the pastors prayed. After the service, people were hugging each other and some of the people were telling our members 'please know that we hurt with you when things like this happen.' After the service, the rabbi got a call from someone at the Islamic Center in Orange County, offering his support as well.

Here is part of what was written up in our local newspaper today:

Rev. Bruce Gray, pastor at St. Matthias Episcopal Church, said Beliak called him after Saturday's incident.

"We asked what we could do,' Gray said, adding that he immediately began e -mailing local church leaders and organizing Thursday's multidenominational gathering.

"We wanted to really make sure that people know that this is something God would not condone,' he added.

Representatives from a handful of other area Christian churches and many students from area colleges also attended the event. "It's a recognition that an offense against one is an offense against all,' said Bob Ihler, senior minister at First Christian Church.

Henny (and anyone else),
I'm so sorry that I wasn't clear...this is a conservative Jewish synagogue. The reason I highlighted the part in the article about the Christian show of support (and didn't mention any other Jewish response) is because I was so touched by how they stood with us during this time. As I was there, I could just imagine Pastor George sitting right among them, and speaking up even stronger, condemning the actions of the vandals. So, I apologize for not making it clearer that this is a Jewish synagogue.

Thank you again to all of you!!!!
