  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

A cross and a prayer book are good things to have. If possible, you may wish to have candles to light for your prayers. If you want, icons of Christ, the Theotokos, and your patron saint (if you have one) are also nice to have; they can help you provide a visual focus for your prayers.

Well I know what I would put-- a book of the gospels, prayer books, candles, some holy water, a cross (or crosses, the more the better), and many, MANY icons!!! I would probably also keep my prayer rope there.

I'm also including some pictures of icon corners/sacred spaces: one from a livejournal friend, one from my church, and one just from an online search.

God bless you!

Wow! The first one and the last one are really great! I'm a little envious! I can hardly wait until I can afford to build up my icon corner. :)

Yeah, I know, I am the same way-- I don't have enough icons yet to make an icon corner (or enough nails)... nor do I have enough other items... though I make do with what I have... hold on, let me find some pictures in my room: 1) my fake icon corner in lieu of my icon-corner-to-come, how sad; 2) my nightstand, which has some prayer books, Bibles, and icons; and 3) my bed-- this is irrelevant but you can see my icon of the Holy Royal Martyrs and some things I have up on my wall... an icon of St. Patrick along with the text of Patrick's Breastplate and a printed out icon of Christ along with a prayer before going to sleep by St. John of Damascus.

Thanks for sharing those, Marjorie! You have more than I do. Mine isn't really a corner, but just a place on the eastern wall of my bedroom. My room is so small that I don't have many options.

Does anyone here have a special rug they use to pray on (or make prostrations on...)? I have seen where some Orthodox cultures do this. I think Ukranian or Romanian, or something. I think there was one in one of the first group of pictures you posted, Marjorie. I'll look again.....

**Edit** Yep, the first pic. (in post #3) of an icon display has a rug on the table, which I assume is probably a prayer rug.

A bible, a cross, some incense and candles on a small table would be a nice start. An icon of Christ and the Theotokus and your patron saint(s) would be good too. If you had a prayer rope (which I doubt you do) I would have that there too.

Do you know any uk based online shops??

Here's one in Llanelli :)

I've never shopped from there though.

Some churches sell books and icons after the Sunday liturgy at a fraction of the original prices (it's normally items that parishioners have donated for this purpose).

Here's mine. Icons: Theotokos (written by an iconographer friend) Christ the Great High Priest, Guardian Angel (also written by friend) St. Angelina of Serbia, St. John Maximovich, St. Seraphim, Transfiguration, Dread Judgement, and the big one on the bottom is the New Martyrs of the Communist Yoke. My monstrous baptismal candle is on the bottom tier, along with church bulletins, prayer rope, prayer book, and Bible (sometimes.) The bronze cross on the middle shelf is an Indian oil lamp. Very messy, but cool.

Your icons of the Theotokos and Christ are the same set I have. I think they are so beautiful.
Me too!!!! I love this one of Christ, because I just see the compassion and mercy in his eyes....Also, I sometimes think, when I look at Him in this one, that He's almost laughing as if to say "Allright now, calm down and let Me help you."

Hey, at least it faces east.

You have a lovely icon corner, Suzannah. I would post a picture of my corner, but it seems I am at my picture posting limit and I dont want to remove any of the icons which I have already posted. My corner has the following icons in it: The Cross, Christ Immanuel, St. Patrick, Theotokus of Tenderness, St. Ignatuius of Antioch, The Holy Trinity, St. Michael the Archangel, St. Peter, St. Andrei Rublev.
