I am not a fan; they feel cheaply made to me.

Years ago when I was shopping for an Alaska firearm my father asked me what my life was worth. I put the .308 down and got a stainless Browning A-Bolt in .375 H&H Magnum.

In this case, my life is worth more than a $300.00 9mm.

That's like people discussing which 2dr 4cyl econobox is the best for running around town in and you come in and saying, "monster trucks are awesome!!".

I am not a fan; they feel cheaply made to me.

I bought the S&W Performance Center Shield in 9mm with all of the bells and whistles for $460 last Summer.

My then girlfriend said she had a self-defense pistol but hadn't shot it in years and wanted me to help her get familiar with it and make sure it was ready and reliable. She didn't even know what it was other than black and 9mm.

We got to the range and she pulled out a Glock pistol case. Nice. I opened it up and inside was not a Glock but a Taurus 709 Slim 9mm. I have heard horror stories about Taurus auto pistols. Some are great little pistols and others never work right.

I did a function check and loaded it up with cheap 9mm ammo that I brought for my Shield and proceeded to blast away. It had tighter tolerances, felt better made, ran without any issues, and was far more accurate than my high-dollar Shield PC. But, the trigger had a looooong pull. Like over an inch of creep is what it felt like. Huge contrast to my Shield's excellent trigger. Nevertheless, it was an experience that caused me to give up on trying to get my Shield to shoot right.

Right next to the Shield ad on Buds Gun Shop ad is that same model of Taurus on sale for $182... I'm tempted...

In this case, my life is worth more than a $300.00 9mm.

But they normally go for $350 to $470, which is the average price for a subcompact 9mm.

I have a Shield and I like it but very seldom shoot it. I prefer Glocks.
That is a great price though....I remember when they first came out it
was impossible to fine one, and if you did you paid a premium for it.

Those are Prohib in Canada; but we also have no need for them.

Not saying it would not be fun to run a couple hundred through it at the range...

I have owned three hand guns that are designated "prohib" now; none were accurate enough to bank your life on; and none, other than the the old H & R .32 long were any more accurate than minute of barn door. A real disappointment was a FN .32 Auto; what a piece of landfill. I met an old German guy who was born in Berlin during WW2 (his birth certificate had a swastika on it); after the war, he got a job on the Berlin Police force and was issued one of these. His opinion was "throw it at zem; better schantz hitting zem mit der pistole zat vwey!"

I share his opinion.

I picked up a 2.0 Shield 9mm this year, and I find it to be a capable self-defense gun. It conceals easily. With cheap factory 115 grainers at 7 yards I'm getting slow fire 5-round groups under 1", six-round double tap groups 4", and six-round rapid fire at 6"; that's with me being badly out of practice and with too much caffeine on board.

I didn't like the mushy factory trigger; have replaced it with the Apex trigger and duty/carry kit, which is much better but I think still has too much pull force. I wish you could decock it and run the first shot DA, without that I won't carry with a loaded cylinder. I'm a lefty so I kinda wish it had an ambidextrous safety, but I don't rely on safeties anyway so that's not a big deal.

Good gun, there's a reason so many are being sold.

I think the Shield shoots better than the Bodyguard. I was not impressed with that 380.
I could barely hold on to that little thing, so for me I'd expect lousy groups with it. I bet it'd be fine for someone with small hands, and one would be unwise to discount the .380 as a defensive load. It'd be perfect for my daughter.
