  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This is my personal view on how Independence is sinful and harmful in the life of a christian.

Thanks to Doxa Community Church(Doxacc. org) I'm growing!!! Thank you Jesus!

My sin of choice is Independence.

Most of my other sin branches from wanting or seeking independence.

It wasn't until a year ago when I was called out for my bad attitude that I was made aware my desire to be independent is a sin.

I like to be original. Knowing about bands others do not, not liking bands others do, having mannerisms different then the norm, and finding interests in the culturally uninteresting. How do I have friends?

The low point of my Sindependence was when I couldn't get my truck up a snowy hill and proceeded to walk all the way home instead of call for a ride. I got home, dried my hair, changed my clothes, and hoped no one would ask about my snow travels. Unfortunately my friend asked me that exact question. I told my story, and he called me an idiot. The words I needed to hear.

God doesn't call us to be by ourselves (Genesis 2:18). God exists in perfect community(Father, Son, Holy Spirit), and so we should seek community with fellow believers.

so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.
(Romans 12:5)

We need to come together, grow together, and exalt Christ together; for our joy and God's Glory.

Luckily I have a Church and a group of friends who not only put up with me, but would and will call me out for this sin of mine. I desire to grow in my faith and understanding of Christ, and to do this I need my friends. I'm truly blessed and thankful to call Doxa my home and look forward to what God has in store for us!

I didn't mean this in respect to denominations, but personal growth. I attend a Non-Denominational church myself. From my personal experience I've grown tremendously more with a community of believers rather than by myself. I'm more prone to fail tests of temptation by myself where I have support and love within my Church body.

Ok, Gen 2:18 refers to man and wife, a helpmate for man.

Christians are also told to separate themselves from sin and those who reject the teachings of Scripture.

My point is that sometimes Christians must separate from "believers" who go against the gospel.

Yes, Christians should attach themselves to a good Church. However, your Genesis reference doesn't refer to this.

How do you view this passage?

2 Corinthians 3
12 Therefore having such a hope, we use great boldness in our speech,
13 and are not like Moses, who used to put a veil over his face so that the sons of Israel would not look intently at the end of what was fading away.
14 But their minds were hardened ; for until this very day at the reading of the old covenant the same veil remains unlifted, because it is removed in Christ.
15 But to this day whenever Moses is read, a veil lies over their heart;
16 but whenever a person turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.
17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.

Where my words were weak, twin1954 said it well. Dependence on Christ, which I do believe means a dependence on spiritual authority/brothers/sisters. Independence of the world is a beautiful thing, but independence in the world is essential what it means to be of the world(from my experience with the sin). Thank you all for the responses. Shaping and growing my view on Independence!
