  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I found Russian really hard just because I didn't get the alphabet. It took me about 5 weeks to learn that, and the course lasted only 5 weeks. It might have been easier if I'd had longer, but I didn't really get it. Although I do think Russian sounds nicer.

so? what are you gonna do, praiseyou?
Well, I don't have to choose for another 2 years. ^_^
I was just wondering, really...

See, there's a lot of Polish people in Ireland nowadays, but also many people from ex-Soviet countries here too, who would speak a bit of Russian.

no! don't learn german. that doesn't even sound good.
(if I wouldn't speak german, or a-kind-of-german, I'd never ever learn it!)

if i had to choose between german and dutch i would definitely learn german. :p

and i'm not saying that coz i'm german. ;) i just think it makes more sense if you have to choose between those two. if you have other options like russian or chinese, sure german would be one of the last. ;)

i'm thinking about learning swedish or norwegian. anyone who has experience with one of this languages?

Too late, I've been learning German for four years now and I love it. :p

Apparently Swedish is similar to Dutch and German... or so I have heard!

I have a book at home about the Russian language, and I have tried to learn a bit. But it's really difficult! I find it hard to get the words in my memory. That seemes as chipping in concrete!
If I'm now in Russia, I can perfectly say to the people in their own language that I do not really speak Russian, and I can tell what other languages I can speak.

I believe that's not because of the alphabet. Learning the biblical Greek was not that difficult for me. And Greek has also an other alphabet.
Learning an other alphabet is not so difficult.

About Polish I don't know anything. The only thing I know is that it uses the Latin alphabet. And that it has one more case than Russian.

I wouldn't say that Polish would never be useful in Europe. In Holland I see many cars with a Polish licence number/number-plate. They are here for work. I think they usally speak German or English - the Polish persons I met in 2005 spoke German. But if you are doubting about learning Polish or Russian, maybe this is something to think about?
