  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Art is a depiction it’s not literal. The style of the examples is to be considered as well. There is all sorts of depictions and styles and one of them was to depict the person baptized as smaller as they are usually standing in water while the person baptizing is depicted are larger. There is quite a bit of symbolism at the time. Smallness depicting humility for one.
Right, it's not literal. And they're all depictions of Jesus being baptized by a clothed John the Baptist. None of them are depictions of the early church in general performing nude baptisms. So personally I'm sticking with Russell Brand baptizing people in his underwear as being inappropriate. But apparently it was just a one off occurrence, rather than a routine practice. So I'll hold off I sending him a scathing Tweet.

Weeks after receiving criticism for conducting a baptism in his underwear, Russell Brand performed another baptism — but in “more modest bathing attire” — and shared how he feels a sense of freedom when he dedicates himself to glorifying God.

In an Oct. 5 social media post, the 49-year-old comedian shared a photo of himself next to a friend in a pool: “Another day, another baptism. This time in a pool and in more modest bathing attire. By His Grace we’ll soon be doing them in the Jordan in Camel skins shorts,” he captioned the photo.

In two follow-up posts, Brand wrote, “I’m reminded that at all times, there is only an audience of one — Jesus,” and, “As long as I know that I’m in relationship with Him, criticism doesn’t matter.”
