  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

You are blessed to have found a passion in fitness! Keep on putting one foot in front of the other! Running is a great fitness activity, but some people are unable to enjoy running for different reasons, perhaps injuries or anatomical problems. Some people enjoy other forms of cardio. All that really matters is loving what your doing, and moving a lot! Yes, running and praying are a great combo! God Bless,J

You're entitled to your opinion, but I'm convinced of just the opposite. Running is about the worst form of exercise there is due to its high-impact nature. Even if you don't want to lift weights at all, there are better options for cardiovascular fitness, as fitmom pointed out. Cycling for instance.

I always run on soft ground, so I don't see the problem with impact.

I'm quite sure we were designed to run (on soft ground as that was the surface back then).

You can pick up dangers with other cardio excersises. For instance:
Swimming baths in the U.K. are full of chlorine.
I also love cycling (road), but the danger is if you come off. But I personally think cardio in the gym is just boring. It's got to be outdoors for me

Same for me. I alternate between cycling (on a stationary bike at home) and running (outside) and even though the running is much harder for me I still love it more than cycling at home. I just love being outside...running by the river is especially great.

I also believe we are designed to run on soft ground...unfortunately there isn't enough of that nearby to me so I'm running on tarmac at the moment. Have not experienced any impact injuries yet but as my runs get longer the majority of them will be on soft ground.

Though in this months issue of Runners World magazine they do talk about an ongoing study at Stanford University. Apparently, the study has found that on average the non-runners developed disabling joint changes 12 years earlier than the runners. I haven't read the full study though so can't say whether it's really believable or not.

.

One of my pet hates is when the local councils decide to tarmac country paths as 'improvement'.

I find that if I don't run for a period of time...say 2 weeks or so... than my right knee (which is arthritic..but not due to running) will start to hurt. When I do run, it never hurts.
Running is very theraputic to me. I find that when I run, I grow closer to God because I use the time to pray. My health has improved greatly when I run and my mental health also improves as I run.
