I am guessing that people are so eager to have a President of another skin color that they don't care what he stands for. It would have been the same if H. Clinton would be the nominee, they would be wondering how anyone couldn't vote for a woman to president.

that's not quite it. People are eager to have a president that isn't George Bush. The GOP neocons have so mangled our country (huge debts, mired in Iraq, post Katrina, ethics scandals, pro-torture, etc...) that people are postively giddy about a post Bush White House.

Personally, I am voting for Obama. But if McCain wins, I would be fine with that. Why? Because as much as the Dems want to paint McCain as another Bush, we all know that would just be impossible. No one could ever be as bad as Bush.

No one could ever be as bad as Bush.

I don't know about that.

I voted for Bush. I don't think I could ever vote for Mccain.

Which means that in my opinon, Mccain would be the worst.

I think I might consider moving out of country if Mccain is elected.

As for celebrities.... Mccain seems to be much more like a pawn to me. The same lobbyists that shaped Bush will shape Mccain except for I suspect that Mccain will be even more submissive to them by the looks of it.

I thought this thread was about Obama being black and why we would or would not vote for him. People ARE so eager to have a black man as president. End of sentence.

I know that people are eager to not have Bush as president. Yet, there were many other candidates in the field for both parties and all I heard for two years now is that the democrats would be selecting a woman or a black man as their candidate. The other candidates in the democratic party did not have a chance. Instead, it comes across as an extremely strong desire to make history at all costs.

to make history at all costs.

I think Obama would make a excellent president. I also agree with him on most issues.

I probably would still vote for him even if republicans had a better choice.

I'm excited about what a good choice we have this year on the dem's side.

Oops, guess the OP was not about whether you would vote for a black man, just the types of ads being run and the race card.

By all means, vote for Senator Obama if you feel he is the better choice. Vote for the candidate that you agree the most with or that you feel would be the best for the country. Keep race and gender out of it. They don't belong. The candidate's positions do belong.

Those of us who choose not to vote for Obama are not voting for him because we don't agree with his stand on issues. That is our choice and our decision to make just as it is your choice and decision to vote for him. I respect you for basing your decision on the issues, please do the same in return for those of us who are voting for someone else.

I do think that there are people willing to vote for him just because he is a black (er, half black) man. In my opinion that is wrong.

I mean this respectfully, but I don't think you are in a position to speak for everyone who is voting. I am glad to hear that you are voting based upon issues and the position of the candidates, but I don't think everyone in america is doing the same.

And I would bet there are plenty of people NOT voting for him because he is black. Both groups of people are wrong.

Everyone Scream! It's not Racist! It's not Racist! It's not Racist! OF COURSE IT'S RACIST! How the heck did John McCain and his campaign settle on Britney Spears, Famous for dressing up like a schoolgirl and singing the following sexually provocative songs, "Hit Me Baby One More Time", "Oops I did it Again", and "I'm a Slave 4 U", with sexually provocative videos, and Paris Hilton, Famous for making a porn video? It's just Birth of a Nation politics and fear ginned up for a new generation. Black Men are coming for White Women, run fer the hillz! The more things change the more they stay the same.

John McCain should be disgusted with himself for running this ad, not proud. Especially considering the way he was smeared in the 2000 primaries.

By the way, I know a lot of people are going to disagree with me, so let me preempt them with this stumper. Why exactly did John McCain chose two celebrities who weren't in the Forbes Celebrity 100? Have fun with that stumper. I mean, when he said biggest celebrity in the world, that'd be Oprah right? Or Tiger Woods? Why weren't they featured in the ad?

There are definitely people who will not vote for Obama because he's black. See the videos of the WV exit poll interviews, or come to my family reunion.

I do think that there are people willing to vote for him just because he is a black (er, half black) man.

I imagine those people exist as well, although I don't personally know any.

I'm curious as to which group will have a higher voter turnout.

Meantime, we saw no similar condemnation of Democrats who threw Oreo cookies at Michael Steele or drew racially insensitive cartoons of Condi Rice or referred to Colin Powell as a house slave
The Oreo cookie story is not real, just a conservative tale used to push the "plight of the Black Republican."

The story is real as I described it

Hmm. From the link you provided, there was no evidence of that democrats threw anything. Can you show me where a democrat was caught throwing an oreo? Actually, you said democrats. Can you show me where more than one person affiliated with the democratic party was shown throwing an oreo?

I take it back. The oreo cookies jumped onto the stage all by themselves

I appreciate your willingness to hold yourself up to the same evidentiary status as you hold others here. No evidence that anything was thrown, and if something was indeed thrown, no evidence that it was "a democrat".

Now if we could just find out who brought jumping oreos to the venue, we'd be on to something :D

No cookies were thrown and do you have any evidence that cookies were thrown and that they were thrown by Democrats? If not, I expect an apology.
See my link, and the apology is owed to Steele
