  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

And for the record, I was discussing how Elders and a confessional church operates. Not that I'm going to call up jr's Elders and tattle on him.

The church I attend has Elders. They are supper relaxed and laid back on church discipline. It seems they discipline when it's too late which often means the person is set in their sins and when talked to they just leave. Another church I visit often has Reformed Elders and they actually practice the biblical model of church discipline. The folks that get disciplined more often than not admit their guilt and are brought back to the Lord's Table. One fella started reading a lot of Bart Ehrman and started to doubt scripture. He was disciplined from taking part in the Lord's Supper because of his unbelief and, by the power of God, he repented from his sin and was renewed to faith in the scriptures.

Yours in the Lord,

jm

Not exactly a rocket scientist if Bart Ehrman can sway your opinions...

Each man suffers from their own sins.

"But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death."
