  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Rudy Giuliani ordered to pay $148 million in defamation trial

You don't really believe that do you?

Really?

Probably but I don't recall what happened to the women and didn't pay attention to the trial. I thought they were accused of engaging in election fraud....wrongly, obviously....what sort of damage were they claiming from that?

They received the wrath of MAGA supporters who believed Giuliani (and others who repeated his lies), as well as being doxxed on right wing social media. They had death threats, their family members were also threatened, had people knocking on their doors late at night, changed their appearance, went into "hiding," etc. This Reuters article lays out some of what the experienced and what they did.

I'm not sure what this has to do with anything. Civil cases against those who have harmed you are part of our legal regime. Anyone who has been harmed can bring a suit.
Harmed to the tune of almost $150 million?
Yeah right.

This is a most ludicrous judgment in this civil case.

The extremely high amount of the payment in this ruling is yet another example of a weaponized "justice" system.
What, in your opinion, would be an appropriate amount for someone like Giuliani who's not only rich on his own, but has wealthy friends and legions of supporters willing to pay his debts? How much is enough to punish him and deter him and others like him from being lying jerks in the future?

I don’t really see the point in handing down a punishment so large he’d never be able to pay it off. Make it a very large sum so it hurts him but in the 100 millions? That seems a bit ridiculous but it couldn’t have happened to a slimier guy.

Hope they put that money to good use.

Is that it? MAGA supporters?

as well as being doxxed on right wing social media.

Golly.

Sounds like an average night for Kyle Rittenhouse.

At what point were they kidnapped and tortured?

Because I'll change literally everything about me for just 50 million dollars. The whole neighborhood can take turns knocking on my door.

Both this case and the Alex Jones one interest me very much.
Both acted despicably, making up blatant public lies about people and having their fans then attack the victims of those lies.

Both were very rich men and both were found guilty and having to pay very large sums.
What I'd like to know, is whether their victims receive any of the money, how long it takes for them to receive any of it? How much of what is awarded do the victims actually receive?
How does the law actually get the money from these guys in order to get it to the victims?

Young Rittenhouse wasn't volunteering to help count election votes for America. He went out of state with weapons looking for trouble and found it. He should expect some reaction to his actions. These ladies were not looking for trouble but merely working constructively for the good of their community. Doing volunteer work is something that might help young Rittenhouse grow up. Ruby Freeman and her daughter have received a Presidential Citizens Medal for their courage and selflessness.

Why would it take $50,000,000 for you to want to change?

When you begin receiving death threats and your name is dragged through the mud, what would not be a sum that isn't "weaponized justice"?

Oh no. Comparing Rittenhouse to these two women?

Young Rittenhouse wasn't volunteering to help count election votes for America.

So it's not about damages?

He went out of state with weapons looking for trouble and found it.

I'm sure you believe that.

He should expect some reaction to his actions.

Right.

These ladies were not looking for trouble but merely working constructively for the good of their community.

After everyone else called it a night no less. How dedicated.

Doing volunteer work is something that might help young Rittenhouse grow up.

I'm pretty sure he was a volunteer lifeguard but I don't think any of this actually matters to you.

Ruby Freeman and her daughter have received a Presidential Citizens Medal for their courage and selflessness.

Really? For counting votes?

Why would it take $50,000,000 for you to want to change?

Because I love who I am.

What does he have to do with the MAGA mob threatening election workers?

Well they weren't denied some opportunities or anything. Given the current political environment...being targeted by the public is a fairly common event.

Did someone claim they were?

Well for anything over 100 million I actually expect some damages.

Nobody asked what you'll take.

Awww...you ok guy?

Was their name dragged through the mud? I had to look them up.

Death threats are unpleasant....I'll agree. I don't know if 100 million plus is warranted. Seems excessive.

What happened to them? As a result of the defamation I mean...
The usual constant calling of verbal racist abuse replete with death threats. “Just ringing, ringing, ringing. Just ringing non-stop,” "When she went to the police station to report some of the calls, her phone rang so much that the police lieutenant began answering it during her interview to make a police report" There were people knocking on their door harassing them. There were people parked outside her residence harassing them. They even moved, but they found out where they moved and continued the harassment. They literally had to retreat from being out in the public.

Note: If you choose to respond, I ask you please to stay on point and refrain from the whataboutism rabbit holes.
