Giuliani has been ordered to pay $148 million in damages to both Ruby Freeman and Wandrea "Shaye" Moss. Of course, since Rudy apparently can't even to afford to pay his lawyers, it will be interesting how he'll be able to pay the damages in this case. The breakdown of the amounts: $16.171 million to Ruby Freeman for defamation, $16.998 million to Shaye Moss for defamation, $20 million to each for emotional distress, and $75 million in punitive damages.

Some talking heads mentioned that he owns a condo in Manhattan, a mansion in the Hamptons and nine other properties. Freeman and Moss may do okay financially. Too often a gigantic cash infusion can lead people to ruin. I hope they'll be okay.

Here's a blast from the past, a profile of Rudy in 2018: How Rudy Giuliani Turned Into Trump’s Clown

The extremely high amount of the payment in this ruling is yet another example of a weaponized "justice" system.
I'm not sure what this has to do with anything. Civil cases against those who have harmed you are part of our legal regime. Anyone who has been harmed can bring a suit.

It has to be an absurdly high punishment, else it would have zero deterrent effect on other spoiled elites.

The man literally went out after his lawyer admitted the defamation, and did it again.
It was a self inflicted weaponization, and to me the amount is not enough for what he and Trump put these women through.

I can't tell you exactly what I think of Giuliani as I enjoy posting in the forum. But those figures are ridiculous for defamation. Bear in mind someone not a million miles from Giuliani got pinged about 3% of that for what the judge said was effectively rape.

It seems a bit excessive but I don't actually know what she had to deal with.

Alex Jones got fined billions, didn't he?

For defamation?

What happened to them? As a result of the defamation I mean...

Wait...what?

You're saying she doesn't deserve that much, but he should be fined that much because of his wealth?

No, I am saying it is impossible to quantify in $dollars$ the amount of suffering Mr Giuliani cruelly inflicted on these women. Those people in Donald's circle are not seemingly deterred by any amount of money they may be ordered to compensate their victims. I wouldn't be offended if this guy was ordered to pay them $500,000,000.

I think the punitive damages may be reduced in Rudy's appeal tho.

It does seem to be entirely arbitrary. I can understand that if you think the defendent is a piece of dirt that you still must determine guilt based on the evidence and not his or her character. But after that, what is the guidance for determining what is in effect the sentence?

You don't really believe that do you?

Probably but I don't recall what happened to the women and didn't pay attention to the trial. I thought they were accused of engaging in election fraud....wrongly, obviously....what sort of damage were they claiming from that?
