RPG gamers

im facinated by them. .hack and Final Fantasy are my favorites. many people think .Hack is too repetative but i didnt. I love the story line. FF VII is absolutly the best one in the series(story wise). what makes an RPG good? i think its the story it tells. how bout you?

I personally liked .Hack it can be a little repatative but it does follow a story if you follow the clues. FF7 was excellent. AA good RPG is about variety and a good story but should not be too short and give the player a lot of choice and freedom and not be too linear. I like games with multiple endings according to what you do in the game.
Silent hill was a good example of this there were at least three endings!

RPGs need a good storyline, good characters, and good plot. FFs do a pretty good job, but they are, IMO, a little "low" on the RPG spectrum. If you really want to get into RPGs, pen-and-paper games like D&D or MMOs like EverQuest, GemStone IV, and Neverwinter Nights are by far high quality and down-deep RPGs.

That isn't to knock FFs and FF-like games. I personally love the FF series and they helped get me into the RPG genre. But once you start playing "high" RPGs, you'll understand why FF doesn't always capture all the qualities (but does capture most, be assured) of what a really good RPG is all about.

i play RPG's a lot. i would play MMORPG's but i dont exactly have the resources to do that. I would if i could but i cant so i wont. I hear a lot about Everquest. dont know what its like though. i believe that a Great and imersive story is what makes RPG's fun to play.how many people here have actaully played .Hack?

I've always been graphically oriented. I see people who say that a game can be all gameplay and no graphics, but I can't agree. Of course, good graphics alone don't make a game.

I need a strong, twistful story, a good battle system (I prefer the action battle system over the turn-based), and strong character development. Graphics are extremely important as well, though sometimes sacrifices can be made. I love Super Mario World, and by today's standards, the graphics aren't all that great (though, that isn't an RPG).

I personally think That The Legend of Zelda games are very good. does any one here plan on buting the new Zelda for Gamecube. from the video demos i've seen it looks graphically awsome. Link's supposed to look more Mature. the story is also going to be much darker than before.

The problem with graphical games is that it limits the imagination. Textbase games (which includes, for this example, D&D) allow a full use of the imagination. You can let your mind paint a picture, which is exactly what original RPing was all about.

Not to say that EverQuest is no less an RPG than GemStone IV or D&D; some people like graphics. I also do on occasion, but I also like to use my imagination from time to time. :)

I tyred D&D but the people at my school were too serious!!!!! I always was an Evil Assasin. I always turned on them and started killing them all. they got mad and kicked me out. After a while i realised that all they would talk and do was related to D&D. Get a life, you know? have you guys ever played Earth 2025. it was fun. its online and free. its at swirve.com. you make and govern a country then blow people UP!! BWAHAHAHAHAH!!!!

i didn't quite like it either, in an RPG where the lead character doesn't talk, leads to very little development for he/she, char. development being high on my list of "what makes a good RPG" list

Your character in Fable doesn't talk either, but its still a great game nontheless, because in free-roaming and open-ended games, you can't really have a definite dialogue in them, like morrowind and FFXII.
