Dear Daily Message Readers,

READ: 1 Thessalonians 5

1 Thessalonians 5:8 (NKJV) "But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation."

One of Satan finest attacks on the believer is that he covers sin up with a guise of something that looks or attractive or sounds pleasant to the ears (2 Timothy 4:3-4). Before we know it, we have fallen in a temptation that has taken us off of God's path and into a barren wasteland of sin.

As believers in Jesus Christ, we have no excuse to offer when we are taken in by temptation of the enemy. We can put on the armor of God, which protects us from Satan's most subtle and candy-coated attacks. With the breastplate of faith and love, we can resist the forces of darkness (1 Thessalonians 5:7-9).

Not all is lost, however. Over time, with the Holy Spirit's shaping of our lives, we learn to discern the difference between the fine-sounding idea before us and the deceptive noise of Satan's prowling footsteps (1 Peter 5:8). Thankfully, even if we fail to resist Satan's temptations, the Lord will make sure we know the difference between what is truly satisfying and what only appears to be.

And how do we do that, you ask? By meditating on the truths of the Bible. By asking the Lord Jesus for discernment. By relying on the gentle, sure direction of the Holy Spirit. By depending on the support and wise counsel of believing friends and Christian leaders. Then we won't let Satan, the great deceiver himself, fool us into nixing our relationship with the Lord and His plans for our lives.
Faith Lesson: To overcome the attacks of Satan, you need to walking closely to God.

In Christ,
Darin Smith
