Hi folks,
Why is it that many Christians get very touchy when what they beleive in is questioned? Something like when smelling a rose, hands off or you will be pricked by the thorns.

I would suggest that most Christians have a very little understanding of the Bible and when even that much which they do know gets challenged they have only their shallow understanding to fall back on to defend their faith.

I don't really blame these Christians - I blame the Church which has traditional treated its members in ways which are condescending and patronizing - basically telling them they will got to hell if they don't obey the Church.

MY DEAR FRIEND,

i think perhaps you have run into a string of "professed christians" who aren't really sure what they believe and, regarding the little they are aware of, they are not all that sure that it is true--ergo, defensiveness.

For-real Christians, on the other hand, who know their Lord and what they believe, are told, "Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have." (I Peter 3:15)

It is very hard to smell a rose with your hands behind your back--yes?

well I can maybe understand many with a new found faith that they are very happy about it, and why not? I would not like to try to spoil their happiness even if it was possible. I agree with you CommonAncestor,I try to see it that way too but is it not more than politics,religion and sports?
Maybe its because some understand it as a questioning of their mentality. I would like to add that by questioning I do not mean impertinent and aggravating questions.
Maybe it is as the two before posters imply. Have been thinking along those lines as well. But it seems that many gone to Egypt and are now being held captive there by fear.

I think it is human nature to be touchy when a belief is questioned whether it be on religion or politics or whatever. Personally, I enjoy the interaction with other believer and non-believers as it helps me focus on the question "just what do I believe and why?".

I'd say for the same reason those people get touchy when anyone disagrees with their opinion on other matters or argues with other beliefs they may have.
