Ronald Reagan called Africans at UN 'monkeys', tapes reveal

Former US President Ronald Reagan described African delegates to the UN as "monkeys", in newly-unearthed tapes published by a US magazine.

He made the comment in a 1971 telephone call with then-President Richard Nixon.

Mr Reagan, who was governor of California at the time, was angered that African delegates at the UN sided against the US in a vote.

No matter what is done to bury tapes and recordings, they eventually come out.

Here's one of many: remember the Pentagon Papers, which showed that the gov't does indeed lie?

Your earlier reply reminds me of many theists who say "We know this is true because God/Allah/YHWH/Zeus gave it. Now please stop with this nonsense [line of questioning]."

Now, I'm not claiming that these tapes are a fabrication. I'm agnostic on the issue.

You're using a government report about government dishonesty to prove that the government is dishonest. If the government is dishonest, why should I trust what's in the report? Maybe that's what's been faked.

More specifically - do you have any evidence that the national archives has faked anything in the past? It's one thing for an administration to lie about its own misdeeds. It's another thing entirely for a non-partisan wing of the government to lie about something 40+ years in the past, in which it has zero stake either way.

I have no idea if it's non-partisan, or if the reports are true or false, or if the individual wings (individual persons) that are part of the National Archives are themselves non-partisan or have faked anything in their past.

I'm merely questioning how we can verify the authenticity of any audio or video anymore, given that modern tech gives many the ability to create realistic fakes.
