Is there anyone else out there who watches/loves this series by HBO (most of their shows are wonderful)? The first season ended with the death of Julius Caesar and I have a feeling this one (the end of the series itself) will end with the rise of Augustus.
It is a great series, however there is a LOT of nudity (*gasp*), violence, and naughty words in it. Pretty typical of the empire that most emulates our own lovely United States of America. ;)

It could be interesting, but like everything else HBO does they have such limited faith in the talent of the actors and writers that they fill it with unneccessary and explict sexual material. Not intelligent enough to be interested in historical ficition, well then we've got soft core porn for you.
Considering the Romans took the known world and the US has trouble with a little hunk of dessert I fail to see why anyone would attempt to compare the two.

Well, nudity and sex was very much part of the Roman way of life. It was everywhere so... I suppose that would make it a perfect idea for a show for HBO. ^_^
Anyway, I like the show. I wish they had slowed down a bit and made the series last a little bit longer (it would have allowed them to be a little bit more historically accurate) but what I have seen is good. There are only a handful of episodes left and it has kept me quite entertained until I can get back into my LOST schedule. :)

That's 24 years later. (I haven't watched teh show, but I thought it didn't try to cover that much ground timewise)

The Romans had trouble with that same hunk of desert. The Persians were a major enemy of Rome, and even gave them some of their greatest defeats, such as the Eagles lost by Crassus in 53BC. And a major war with Persia in the early 7th century is what weakened the Romans (East Romans) and Persians to the point the Romans lost a lot of territory to the Muslims and Persia was completedly conquered by them.

I have a feeling they will end with the rise of Augustus simply because it is their second and last season and that would be (perhaps) the most climactic way to end it. They have put a lot of emphasis on little Octavian and I think they might skip over some time just to get to the point where he takes power.

Actually, if you were interested in Roman history you'd know that Rome went through several "family values" eras which were quite morally strict. The problem is simply that HBO has again chosen to be overly graphic as opposed to using good story telling to draw an audience.
