the fruits of the spirit should manifest themselves in all believers as they grow closer to God.

The Gifts of the spirit are abilities given by the Sprit at GODS discretion, not ours.

Man FOC do I agree with you. The verse in Acts 2:38 is mistranslated purposely to promote Baptismal regeneration. It should be Be ye baptised because of instead of for the remission of sins. If you look at the Greek text, this error is so easily dismissed. Baptism is an answer to a good conscience towards God according to Paul, not the washing away of sins. Baptism just gets you wet, if you don't believe anyway. We follow our Lord in Believers Baptism out of obedience, not to earn anything, including salvation.
