I often wonder what it must have been like for the soldier who's ear Jesus restored.
As part of the group who arrested Jesus and perhaps remained in the group to the end, I have to wonder.....there had to have been a huge struggle within him.
Just thinking out loud. Your thoughts appreciated.

I've thought about that too. My hope is that somewhere along in his life, he finally acknowledged that Jesus Christ is the Messiah and that he repented and followed Him. That type of thing to happen..just picturing if that happened to me- that would be no 'small miracle' for me. That'd be HUGE! From being earless and in excruciating pain to having it restored and my veins healed shut. Know what's more amazing? That even to the point of being captured, Jesus Christ still performed healing- He didn't even hesitate or think twice. He just did it- to the very person who was ordered to arrest Him. The character of God is mind blowing.. and truly beautiful.

Think instead about the Roman Centurion who speared Jesus and what that really means, and why He did what he did. Then think why Water in mentioned and ask yourself if Romans lie.......

Sometimes I don't type what I think I am. But I don't understand this. Could you elaborate?

Yeah, I've thought about him and the other soldiers such as: "Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them. As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground." John 18:3-6 or the ones at the tomb "And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men." Matt 28:4

Yeah, I think the guys in that group would have either remained face down on the ground trembling, or they would have been say'n, "see ya", as they ran as fast as they could in the other direction. But the Bible doesn't mention anyone doing anything like that.

The god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they cannot see the truth (2 Corinthians 4:4).

Yours and His,
David
p.s. - apparently the angel in Matthew 28 was other-worldly enough, between his descent from Heaven and his physical appearance, to make the guards at Jesus' empty tomb tremble in spite of their blindness however.

Now that is being slain in the spirit right there. LOL.

Can understand why one of the theories as to why the Roman Empire fell was Christianity.

That... doesn't really work, because there was a point where Christianity was made the official (and then later, mandatory) religion of the Roman Empire.

One thing I think a lot of people don't understand, is that the Roman Empire never "fell", it eventually dissolved and broke up into pieces. Nobody conquered Rome, it's just they eventually ran out of money and resources when their empire got too big for them to properly manage and it just went downhill partly due to corruption, partly due to laziness.

In fact, there's a lot of people out there who compare the USA to the Roman Empire because of the same reasons. Look at our infrastructure, our roads, bridges, education system, healthcare, corruption in the government, debt, etc. Can you honestly say that this nation is healthy now, as it used to be, say 50 years ago?

The USA has gotten lazy and lax about maintaining its infrastructure, and kinda like the Roman Empire, that will be its "downfall".

Remember Nebuchadnezzar's dream about the statue and Daniel's interpretation of it. Babylon was the golden top, Persia was the silver chest, Greece was the bronze lower torso, Rome was the legs of iron.

But yet, there's one more piece of this statue that will emerge, and it is made out of iron, but mixed with miry clay. It will be "like unto the last" but yet not as strong. It will be somewhat like Rome was, but not anywhere near as strong or powerful. This, IMO, could possibly mean that the regions that were once under the Roman Empire will band together in some sort of loose union that is kinda-sorta like an Empire, but yet nowhere near as strong and unified.

Yep. It is the new world government, the globalism government ruled by the world dictator that the Bible says will be in place when Lord Jesus returns and smashes it to pieces. He is the stone cut out without hands. He is the mountain that fills the whole Earth. Praise Him! Hallelujah!

Christianity was never a forced religion within the Empire.

Christianity was never a forced religion within the Empire.

It wasn't?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_church_of_the_Roman_Empire

Nicene Christianity became the state church of the Roman Empire with the Edict of Thessalonica in 380 CE, when Emperor Theodosius I made it the Empire's sole authorized religion.[1][2]

Am I reading that wrong?
