  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Actually, I'll thank you for leveling it which allowed the only Orthodox safe haven to be in Russia. Beautiful country. Wish I could go there someday.

Yeah, that worked out real well. USSR anyone?

What about?

They are flexible. My point wasn't who has the greater fasting practices- the traditional Catholics have better than the regular ones, but they're nuts and generally jerks. My point was that was do practice fasting.

Maximus said that the pope was infallible and the supreme rule of the Church and world. Of course, your Church rejects those words just like they rejected his words 120 years ago because it doesn't suit them.
Actually, St. Maximus was never executed. Only exiled.

The acts and decisions of emperors do not always reflect that of the Church. You should know this.

Sorry, but we'd prefer keeping to ourselves and keeping Orthodoxy alive than to compromise our autocephaly and freedom for unity only to be under a man with a funny hat.

When did I say this?
When you said the word "ignorant".

Only about 80 years of Communism.

988-1917 is about 929 years of Orthodoxy flourishing. Not counting the countless who practiced their faith underground.

However, I will have to thank you for the Ustase. Blessed us with good martyrs.

What of Poland and Czechoslovakia? Both were Communist.

They are flexible. My point wasn't who has the greater fasting practices- the traditional Catholics have better than the regular ones, but they're nuts and generally jerks. My point was that was do practice fasting.
And yes, we fast as I had described. Sorry, but when someone's health is taken into account that strange bit of mercy kicks in.

Maximus had his tongue ripped off and his hands chopped of. He was constantly being shuffled back and forth between trials (and condemned) and he finally died.

Sorry, but we'd prefer keeping to ourselves and keeping Orthodoxy alive than to compromise our autocephaly and freedom for unity only to be under a man with a funny hat.

It's not his hat that's important- just his keys.

Of, Russian and eastern Europe suffered for the sins of the Church and the west.

As for fasting- I've never heard an eastern priest suggest that everyone should jump into strict fasting at adult age. You forget the fact most Orthodox don't follow the rules anyways.

Doesn't this part sound a bit odd to you?

Why should we have to suffer for your sins?

Doesn't that kill the accountability on your part as much as bits of Calvinism kill God's Grace?

Neither do Roman Catholics.

But we try.

Considering the both Churches have established this as a non-issue that merely varies on perspective, I won't go into this.

whoa whoa this is NOT true. you will find no official Orthodox statement that says this. some "theologians" might believe this, but it is certainly not the mind of the Church. That is why St. Mark of Ephesus is known as one of the pillars of Orthodoxy.

Thank you.
Interesting observations.
I agree, even the Apostles
had disputes. And the ECF
were not all in agreement
by any means.
