I'll go with Lotar, that she is both. She is "Mother of God" only in the fact that she was in the relationship of "mother" to Jesus, who was God. In this sense, Joseph was also the "Father of God," since he played the role of "father" to Jesus, who was God even when He was a little child.

Mary was not "mother" in the sense of "originator" of Jesus' divine side, so she was only "mother" of His divine side in that she was "mother" of all of Him in how she related to Him. In the same way today, someone can adopt a child and be its "mother," though not the "genetic predecessor" of that child. Mary was the "mother of God," but she was only the "predecessor" of Jesus' human part, not His divine part.

Easy to understand.

Jesus did noit have humanity until He was born or as some may say when He was conceived.

We are getting into ground that gets very tricky so just take it easy.

Mary is a supreme example of a woman who obeyed God and who loved God.
I believe the term 'God-bearer' is important in that it needs to be clear that since the moment of conception , Jesus was 100% man and 100%God, the two natures combined.

I prefer the term Mary, mother of God Incarnate.:)

It is VERY important, when trying to argue that Mary isn't the mother of God that you aren't simply reacting to what appears to be excessive adoration of Mary, and in do so are denying the Incarnation at conception.

It becomes important when discussing the nature of Jesus Christ.

How? how would it make a difference when he is the only source of salvation and not Mary>?
Because to vote against Mary being the Mother of God, is to subscribe to Nestorian Heresy that was anathemized by the Holy Church! If one subscribes to Nestorian Heresy they are in error and do not worship the one true God, for they have two Christs, and Christianity recognizes one Christ who is God.

"Mere woman" seems a bit ambigious to me, she was "mere" in the sense that she was an ordinary, average woman, but a chosen vessel and highly blessed by the Lord. After all, she was called blessed amoung women.

I have no doubt that Mary was the Mother of God (God-Bearer, Thetokos)

I agree superficially, but by selecting this option one must not select the first option, for you can only select one option on this poll. Therefore, if one selects the latter option they cannot select the orthodox teaching which makes them a Nestorian. If one selects the first option then one can remain orthodox while still believing she was a "mere" woman. However, one must believe she is the Mother of God lest they be anathema.

But this is not what Christ taught? he said nothing about Mary in his teachings neither did Paul
