• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

My son who is 6 yrs old and Rocks,he sits on the couch or in the car and rocks back and fourth, not all the time but when he is upset or tense, instead of hitting 99% of the time he finds some place to sit and rock and cry.He has done this since he could sit up,He also ask me the same things many times I answer him but he continues to ask.As a baby he would rather lay in his crib or his Johnny Jumper then be held .I once told people I was almost glad when he got sick then he was a little more cuddley. His cousin has Autism, what is weird is the almost had the same kind of birth -both c-sections,both of them had their heads turned in birth cannel, both me and my sister had infections and fevers after their birth. My son gets sooo obessed with certain things spider man,Mario-Lugivideo game it was all he could talk and pray at the dinner table about.Do you think he has slight Autism?

Have you spoken to your Dr about this? What do his teachers' say?

My suggestion would be to ask your Dr about getting him assessed, you need to find out where you need to go and who to talk to in your area. Does your sister live near you? What did she do when she got her son assessed?

When did your son start talking? How does he cope with school?

Sorry to be jumping all over the place. I'm just typing as things come to mind.

I'm no where near qualified to give any type of diagnose but to be on the safe side I would get him tested. Its not a terrible thing, my son has his problems but he's very high functioning. He doesn't rock but he does like to line things up. The biggest thing that I've had to realize, is that my son learns differently, it doesn't mean that he can't learn, it just a bit different. He is behind in his speech but with help, he is improving each day.

I hope this has been a little bit of a help...

:) Nothing wrong with his speech.he talked at a "normal" time, never behind in learning but is starting not to like school, but I'm sure its just because its getting harder he is in first gradenow instead of kindergarten.Did talk to his doctor she wasn't to concerned, was going to get him tested but he seemed to calm down the rocking thing anyway. When he plays with cars it has to be eye level.Parent teaher conferences are coming up I will see what the teacher says. Thanks for your input.

The reason I asked about his speech is because when we had my son assessed, the Dr and therapist felt he might have aspergers but they couldn't really make up their minds. According to them, Aspergers children talk at the normal or before normal time, but it can't be officially diagnosed till they are 5+...(this is what I was told by the Dr, so don't anyone jump on me if I have my info wrong). My son is to go back for an assessment in the summer of 2006 to see what they think then.

Having the teacher's input will be really good information to take to your Dr.
