Rock solid
Rock solid
Rock solid
Rock solid

I met a stranger and he called me his friend,
Opened his door and invited me in,
And when he looked my way,
Got a chill up my spine,
He said, "Brother, you can stay with me,
I'll give you anything that you might need,
And this world can be yours
If your heart is inclined.
If it's money,
I've got it;
I've got a life of ease,
And if it's power,
I'll give it, "
That's when I told him,
"No thank-you please."
I'm Rock solid, I know where I stand,
Rock solid in the Master's hand,
Rock solid,
Grounded in love.

When I was leaving,
He laughed in my face,
"You'll soon be back and then I'll rest my case,
You'll depend on me
No help is in sight, "
And I responded, "I don't need your lies,
You ain't nothing but a thorn in my side,
Just a wounded snake
That looks for children to bite,
I've got power,
I've got spirit,
I've got a message that's true,
My satisfaction
Comes from Jesus,
And He is so much better than you."

Rock solid, I know where I stand,
Rock solid in the Master's hand,
Rock solid,
Grounded in love.
Rock solid, I know where I stand,
Rock solid in the Master's hand,
Rock solid,
Grounded in love.

Man, this is a total bop. Makes me wanna grow my hair longer, shake my hair, and praise God. :) Amen, Jesus. 1980s were a good decade, as the world was a much simpler time, and I wish I grew up in the 1970s-1990s.

This is much better than the corporate stuff on 2010s and 2020s Christian radio.

I am glad you really enjoyed "Rock Solid" by DeGarmo and Key!! Praise God that I was fortunate enough to attend TWO of their concerts way back in the day. I don't remember the exact years that I went to those concerts, but those 2 times were between 1986 and 1990.

Every time I hear this great song and other great Christian Rock songs, this old man here cannot stop himself from dancing around and praising the Lord Jesus Christ. ..... But, I'm so old now and I ain't never been a good dancer. So, most of the time I'm just doing "chair dancing":clap::clap:

Yeah, this was an enjoyable song. Also, it is awesome that you went to the concerts, and I am glad that you managed to attend two D&K concerts back in the late 1980s.

I am 24, so I can dance with my youth, though I am not good at it. :)

Found this classic Christian station online yesterday, and it has 1970s-2000s Christian music on it:

Good song. That could be their best album top to bottom.
I got to see them several times, got to meet them once. My favorite D&K song may be this one (it is today anyway):

Another good classic. Wish that we had a Christian oldies station in my city, but we do not. Only the new stuff sadly. :) Where did you meet D&K? Did you shake the singer's hand?

I was backstage with them in Atlanta, it was the D&K/Rock Solid tour late 80s. Yes, shook hands talked for a few moments after the show. Somewhere I have a D&K program with their signatures on it. I don't remember what we talked about.. gear mostly I think. Dana was playing St Blues guitars at that time.

Nice. :) It is cool that you shook hands with giants. If you ever get tired of the D&K program book, you could sell it to someone who appreciates the 1980s.

I've met lots of music people in CCM and mainstream music, plus a few politicians and other celebrities. I've worked in media full or part-time since the early 90s.

I produced a Christian oldies radio show in the late 90s, carried over into early 00s. It went back into the Jesus Movement, 70s and into the middle 80s. I still have most albums/materials.
I've thought about pitching it again here in Nashville but there's a stream for just about everything these days..

Wow, you were in the Christian entertainment industry? Did you feel comfortable in the radio industry, or did the industry folks tell you to do anything you did not feel comfortable with? Nowadays, in the 2020s, the music industry takes away musician's rights.

Soldier of Fortune is a really good song with a message about people wasting and selling their souls for money. That message is just as relevant today as it was when D&K made that Street Light album. Also, for me, the DeGarmo and Key D&K Rock Solid album really is their very best album!:clap::clap:

Wow, Soldiers of Fortune was written for the 2020s, cos that is what famous people are doing now, selling their souls for money. I need to check out more of the D&K band.

I recommend that you add D&K to your Spotify or iHeart playlist, or whatever app that you choose to use when listening to GREAT music. :)

I can add them to YouTube playlist and stuff. Classic rock is good, especially Christian music. I may be like 30+ years younger than you, but the oldies are the goldies.

Do you have any African-American gospel recommendations from the 1980s-1990s? Gospel was never played on the Christian stations that I have lived near.

From that era, I enjoyed Kirk Franklin, The Winans, and also Bebe & CeCe Winans as well as Larnelle Harris. However, while being African Americans, those examples did not sing a lot of songs in the "gospel" genre. But, those four examples are the closest to the African American Gospel genre which I have in my collections.

This is awesome. I will add these artists to a list. For myself, I am not black, (brown Romani guy from Bulgaria here, adopted into a white family into the US before age 2, just over 23 years ago), but I like classic music from all races, as we are all one in Christ, as stated in Galatians 3:28.

Gospel, and even rock in general is truly underrated in the CCM scene nowadays, and we need to go back to those roots. Lauren Daigle is good though, same with Phil Wickham.

Sadly, in the 2010s, we got this auto-tuned Christian pop stuff such as this song, but I do not want to judge:

However, some Christian music that is electronic is actually good, such as this:

Chris Tomlin - Waterfall (Tritonal Remix, 2014)

The artists Vambram listed are great choices. You won't go wrong with any of them (aside; our Bishop is a CeCe Winans fan).
My wife and I went to see the Winans in the mid 80s..we had an awesome time.

One of my favorite albums of that era was Helen Baylor Start All Over

Leon Patillo The Sky is the Limit was solid. It definitely had that 80s vibe if that's what you're looking for.

One of my favorite artists, all genres included, is more 70s than 80s/90s: Andrae' Crouch and the Disciples
This one gets a little funky in a great way..

Amen to this. 1970s-1990s Christian music, and gospel is the best. I need to take the DeLorean and go back to the 1980s and see these artists in their prime.

We need some more black Christians here on the forum, and start a Gospel megathread. :) But regardless of race, we can all enjoy Christian music from the 20th century. Helen Baylor, never heard of her, but her voice is amazing.
