I like it too, but what do the lyrics say? I never listened to lyrics much until I became Christian and then I had to drop some songs from my list just by listening closely to what they promoted. I was a professional musician for many years, and was in a Christian rock band. So you will find that some people will condemn the beat, but I always thought one could be stirred towards good things and lifting up the name of the Lord as well as the other's worldly call. That's my personal opinion

raphe has the right idea - if the words are violent, or against Godly living in any way, then best avoided.

If you think the actions and attitudes in a song are immoral, that they would offend God, and that a Christian shouldn't do them, it's not a good idea to feed your mind with it.

Blessings, Susana

Greetings and Blessing be upon you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Great Question:

Two rules to this:

1: I recommend Christian Rock Music, or Rock music where the Lyric’s make you feel good about yourself, and your life.

2: Do not listen to people that might say anything bad about your music because it’s “Rock”

follow those two rules and your set.

Vigil.

Just a thought.........They use to show a tv ad where they were trying to sell suit cases, or bag for travel. They had music on, when the music was kind of layed back, and soft to the ears, the Monkey was fine, but when they put hard pounding music on, then the monkey started tearing up the bags. This was the point to the TV ad, that there bags could take a beating. Music plays right to our souls, what kind of thoughts and feeling do you have when the hard rock is being played? For most animals if you put on Loud and pounding music in will drive then in to a fit. I think we may be seeing some of that in mankind too. I am not saying it does not lift you up, because it does, it get you blood pressure up and running. I would say just watch out what you ( LET ) come in to your ears, for once its there, sometimes it hard to get back out of your mind.

A few suggestions:

1. Are the lyrics good? If they aren't then that automatically expels the song.

2. If the lyrics concern God and/or Christianity, would you sing the song before God and would He be pleased? Since your are ultimately worshipping God (if the lyrics are concerning Him), would the music please Him? Is the song too rockish to be pleasing to God?

I think those are some good guidelines to follow.

I listen to rock. before I really went after God, I listened to some, I suppose you could say, Satanic stuff. Not intentionally though. But now I got rid of the bands CDs and listened to different things.

I still listen to heavy metal bands but some bands aren't as 'evil' as some would have you believe. Steer clear of the obvious-Marilyn Manson (although I see him now as more of a circus act that a serious attempt at evil) Slayer, Slipknot etc

I was listening to a band called Iced Earth recently. My friend recommended them and I was a bit weary. I heard s song called "Ghost of freedom" which I found very uplifting. Here are a few of the lyrics:

Every time you think about it
It tears you up inside
You curse the day your mother
told you, your father died
Now you're always searching
Searching for the reason why I've gone
But I will always be here
By your side, through the darkest night

Here I'll stand on the firing line
Here I'll walk through the field where I died
I will fight and let the voice ring true
I am the ghost
Standing next to you

Every night you go to sleep
You pray the Lord my soul to keep
You don't know I've not gone away
You see I watch over fighting men
So they can have peace again
And maybe someday you will all be free

Here I'll stand on the firing line
Here I'll walk through the field where I died
I will fight and let the voice ring true
I am the ghost
Standing next to you

You speak to me
And I feel your pride
Assuring me I'll never die
I write Mother...
"He's here with me..."
He's in our minds
He's in our souls
Of sacrifice his story's told
He holds the flame of freedom for all to see

Here we stand on the firing line
Here I'll walk in the field where I fight
I will fight of die for liberty
With the ghost standing next to me

Don't tread on me...live free or die!!!
To our fallen brothers
You died to keep us free
To our fallen brothers
Who gave us liberty!!!

I think it's a beautiful song and touched me because it's not what i expected.

There's nothing wrong with rock music, in and of itself, but it's like anything else, in that you have to be able to discern the good from the bad.
Well said!

I completely agree. There are some bands, and more specifically, some songs, that have good moral values and are just OK to listen to. There are others, though, that clearly throw dirt in God's face. It's up to us to discern between black and white and gray. If you only want to live in the white, if the band Over the Rhine is in your collection, then the f-bomb they dropped once would be out, even though they are a christian group. This is a band that is now in the gray area. You can live in the gray area, but you have to be careful.

I feel triumphant and powerful. Sometimes joyful. Especially when hearing songs that remind me of my testimony. The punk version of Amazing Grace is great, it really captures the joy of it all. Bagpipes, then guitars and drums, it's great. And it was even done by a non-Christian band, The Dropkick Murphys.

BTW, I read this somewhere that the same trumpet Psalm 150 says to praise the Lord with was regularly used to psyche troops up for battle. If the Bible says to praise the Lord with music that you listen to right before you're going to kill people, I don't think there is any limit on what kind of music we can praise Him with.
