  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello Fellow Christians.

I have looked all over the internet, to little avail. I would like some opinions of other non-denom christians.

I really like rock, Creed, CCR, Nickelback, AC/DC, Third Day, and a few others. I listened to Rob Zombies "Never Gonna Stop Me" at a friends place the other day, and I really liked it. I know of RZ's reputation for being a satanist, etc. But I don't get that vibe from him, I can barely stand to touch a Manson cd, but RZ doesn't seem to bother me like other such bands.

I know I'll probably be flamed over this, but I personally don't think he is a devil worshiper (nor do I think he is a regular at the sunday services), he has even denied being one, stating that he uses such themes for the pure irony and entertainment of it. I believe he uses it for the same reason it's used in stupid movies that are supposed to be scary, just for the shock factor. His website, and his lyrics to me are tounge in cheek humor, just plain stupid, and a big sales gimmick.

Nonetheless, I refuse to further persue any of his music until I get the opinions of fellow christians, I know some of you will be far to one end, and some to the other. All I ask is that you not flame this thread, but give insightful views, in addition to personal opinions. In other words, something to support the way you feel.

Thanks, & God Bless.
Josh,

P.S. Is there a search feature for the forums? I have looked far and wide, and still cannot find one.

Music is one of Satan's greatest tools for leading people astray. I am 20 years old and loved punk music. Green Day, Thrice, NOFX, Bad Religion and alot of others. I realized that such music did not bring me closer to Jesus and that the music is actually damaging to the soul. So now I listen to alot of pure instrumental music, with some John Denver in the mix as well.

If you really like the sound of electric guitars then you should pick one up and start learning to play. Then you can enjoy music without all the evil/crappy lyrics.

Rob Zombie is not a satanist. It is an act. I don't believe he has any particular belief structure whatsoever.

As far as I'm concerned, listen to what you want. You, better than anyone else, know your tolerance level.

Case in point, I pay a great deal of attention to the lyrical content in songs; however, I love extremely aggressive music. My wife on the other hand has no problems with any lyrics, she simply hates screaming. We both know what the other will handle and we stick within the confines of that when we're listening together.

Rob is just like Marilyn Manson - why do you think Rob is ok but you don't think Marilyn Manson is ok?

I'm not saying either of them are ok btw - I'm just curious how you rationalize that.

I never said that I think RZ is a bit better that MM, all I am saying is that I, for whatever reason, don't get the bad vibes from RZ as I do other such groups. In a sense, I'm asking what everyone else feels about this particular singer, and also these types of groups in general.

I never tried to rationalize listening to him, because there is no rationalization to be made about things like this, I was just citing the information that they have given,

e.g. Rob Zombie: "I do it for the entertainment value, nothing more"

Marilyn Manson: "I want to be know as the person who destroyed christianity"

To me there is a very different attitude between the two, nonetheless, I felt I should seek the opinions and advice of other christians. I'm not trying to "talk you down" so to speak, just making what I said earlier a little more lucid.

I thank you all for your opinions and consideration, and look forward to further postings.

Josh,

I don't know either of these bands....MM (I've seen clips of this one) or RZ....but the question I have is:

If the only difference between them is their "attitude" and you claim to be a Christian, how is it that you can be "entertained" by this immoral stinky filthy garbage?

Are you a Christian or are you not a Christian?

Ok. Just wondering. You won't find a bigger zombie fan than me, but I don't buy his stuff anymore or really even listen to it.
Even if he's not a satanist, he makes light of demonic power and spiritual things. That's nothing to play around with even if he is doing it simply "for entertainment value."

He also helped to make it cool to be evil and into satanic things back when I was a teenager. I'm not going to support that kind of stuff anymore.

I really have to concur on this post - I also was a big fan of both RZ and Manson until I was born again.

I would say to the OP - both of these guys are doing it for "the entertainment value", and they are sitting in their mansions laughing about it. And as this poster wrote, seriously, regardless of whether they think its mere entertainment, this is serious stuff that you just don't play around with.

Take a good look at the lyrics sometime (to RZ, Manson is much more blatantly 'satanic' [LOL]), and maybe check out RZ's movie he made. Then pray and ask God to guide you in this.

I know its tempting to listen to them - to this day if "Dragula" comes on the radio I still instinctively turn up the volume. But, frankly, I've had to put away childish things.

I think Wes and Ivan nailed it. If you are into rock you might look into some Christian rock bands. There are some really awesome ones out there and the music and lyrics build you up rather than provide a negative influence. Check out P.K. Mitchell, Bride, Audio Adrenaline, Whitecross and Bloodgood. All are excellent Christian Rock bands.

Maybe I just have too liberal of a viewpoint on christianity, but I say why not, if you like it and it is not CAUSING you to sin or actually become evil then listen away. I think it's really ridiculous how seriously people take most musicians. I don't believe anything has absolute control over you other than your own morality and control. I listen to all sorts of music, POD, Switchfoot, Ludacris, Eminem, Zeppelin, The Who, Metallica... Because I recognize that it is all about entertainment, never in a million years would I take (most) of these guys seriously.

my opinion of Rob Zombie, is simple, he is a musician, and a director, that is all. some of his music is cool, but i'll never buy a cd, because that style is not my gig, that is all.

as for Rob Zombie's spiritual sense, i have no clue if he is a satanist, or whatever. so i am not going to judge what i don't know about the man. he made the horror movie, A House of a Thousand Corpse, and honest, i saw half of it, and i thought it was awful. it was just cheesy horror, and it wasn't my gig.

i'd say, if you are at peace with listening to his music, then go for it. i'm a metal head. i love metal on the Christian side, and the non-Christian side. some of the secular metal bands talk about important things, and just are extremely talented artists, and i support that. now, there are some bands in the metal genre, that i dont' listen to because i don't like shock rock or shock metal. it doesn't appeal to me and i don't like the things they talk about, so i chose to not to waste my money on something i don't like, but they are talented musicians for sure. same goes with me not buying some Christian cd's. i buy what i like, period. and buy what i'm at peace in my own life to listen to. that's where i think the key issue is. to not burden our brothers and sisters with our freedom, but to just know yourself good enough, to know what you like and don't like and go from there and not push it on anyone else.

The Enemy has done a marvelous job in the last 4 or 5 decades.....watering down the truth until it's almost undetectable.....blending the good and the evil so that the evil cannot even be extracted from the good without damage. Unsalting the salt. Darkening the light. But, that's his job. Delusion. Believe it or not, this very scenario about the music world was prophesied to me by a friend about 15 years ago. The Lord said that the scheme of the enemy was to blend the christian and the worldly music scene so that christians would no longer discern any differences between them. This has come to pass in a marvelous way. The discernment of the Spirit is almost gone among christians. The smell of death is in the air.

To those who love the world: Go for it. Just listen to and do whatever you like. You are your own master. Your own perceptions make either evil or good....nothing is absolute.

To those who claim to be Christians: "Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord."

God bless. :)

i have heard these things, and i think it is just mis-use of scriptures to go with one's personal preferences or opinions.

the same argument can be used to everyday life. i guess the amish are the ones that truly seperate themselves from the world then according to the last two posts. maybe our dress is supposed to seperate ourselves from the world, but yet, there isn't one image that looks Christians out there. everything can always be compared back to the non-Christians/world. then i guess watching secular television shows means we are in the world too. that is true if one believes that listening to secular music is a sin. i'd hate to think that driving cars was in the world, or is truth basically on situation?

being seperate of the world is in the matters of the heart and the actions. as Paul said, "Do not burden your brother with your freedom." i don't believe truth is situational. it matters how we as individuals deal with things in our hearts and lives with Christ. we are not always going to be like minded on small things, such as music, television, movies or whatever. but our hearts are changed through Jesus to reach the ones that need spiritual guidance, and how we live in this world.

i would advise to not go around using scripture against people because of several posts on an online forum and take time to get know one's faith before making assumptions. we all know what we look like when we assume that our perception of someone is right and go on that. take time to get to know exactly why people believe about something as they do. and before you go and make a judgement, maybe you should look at your own life, and make sure that everything is lined up with your comments. if there is one thing that is out line or that has a connection with the world, then maybe your assumption on scripture could be slightly flawed, and maybe you just need to stay focused on Jesus and not proving others wrong.

Funny enough - the OP was solicting opinions and we gave him one. And I certainly do not think that the use of scripture here was used "against" anyone. So "proving others wrong" here was never a factor to me. But if you want to make this easier on anyone here then please let's look at how at least one song of RZ's is used to edify Christians and truly bring glory to Him:

"Demon Speeding"

Hey, do ya love me. I'm untouchable darkness
A dirty black river to get you through this
Hey, do ya love me I'm a devil machine
(hey do ya love me I'm a devil machine)
Get into my world all american dream

In the mouth of madness
down in the darkness
no more tomorrow
down in the hollow

Hey do ya love it when the kids are screaming
Wrecking on the road violate their dreaming
Hey, do ya love to see the filth in the clean
(hey do ya love to see the filth in the clean)
get into the gone all american dream

In the mouth of madness
down in the darkness
no more tomorrow
down in the hollow

i'm demon speeding
i'm demon speeding
i'm demon speeding
i'm demon speeding

get it on, get it on, get it on, get it on come alive

Hey, do ya love me elevating the madness
(Hey, do ya love me elevating the madness)
a super death rising to get you through this
(a super death rising to get you through this)
hey, do ya love me like a beautiful fiend
get into my world all american dream

Discernment anyone?

Twist all you want.....Christians are not entertained by what we're discussing here.

Listen, you younger folks have no idea how much has changed in the world, especially the "church" world in the last 50 years. You haven't seen this particular apostasy creep in...you've come of age in the midst of it. I am a witness. I've seen it, with the natural mind, and then, after a manifestion in my life of the Holy Spirit, with the spiritual mind. I took part in the wickedness of it. And I have taken part in the deliverance from it. I have looked into the spirit world and have been taught first hand many of the schemes of the Wicked. My only interest here is Truth and Salvation.

I'm telling some of you by the Holy Spirit. If you don't wake up to what has taken place around you and begin to see and believe what the apostles and prophets warned you of, some of you are going to be led to Death. An everlasting Death. That is not something to play with or to treat lightly just because you want your "freedom" and your "tolerance" and your "entertainment." (The love of the world.)

You, of course, don't have to listen to a word I say, but I'm warning you by way of the Spirit of God Almighty. If you have the Spirit, I ask you to listen. Do you have ears to hear? Can you hear what the Spirit is saying to His Sheep? Do not be led to the slaughter. Get yourselves some Wisdom quickly! Get understanding. It's almost too late. Can you hear?
